2010 Australian Plafit Championships

The 2010 Australian Plafit Championships are being held this year at North Lakes, Brisbane on 6th to the 8th. August.

The official APC Website with all the important information can be found HERE

There are several differences from last years APC in Melbourne :

- For the first time we will have a complete 8-Lane 60 m Plafit Masters Track air-freighted from Tokyo to Brisbane.

- With the Torque Ford Automotive Group we have a very high profile main sponsor who has made their large showroom at North Lakes available to house the track for the entire event.

- Beside the usual Australian Plafit Championship Car Classes, there will be a Celebrity Challenge with eight identical 1/24 Ford GT3 Cars. Drivers will include V8 Supercar Team Drivers and personalities from Dick Johnson Jim Beam Racing as well as from Stone Brothers Racing.

- It is expected that in this event we will have the best Australian Model Car Racers competing against racers from Japan on equal terms on a neutral track.

Werner will keep this thread updated with the newest info as it comes to hand.

Hi all,

With only a bit more then four weeks to go until the start of Australia's largest Plafit Model Car Racing event, all preparations are well advanced and the Plafit Masters Track is also on its way from Japan.

So far the entries have been strong and the interest is very enthusiastic so that we can certainly look forward to an excellent three days of model car racing.

With such an event held on a neutral track, it is essential to offer all competitors exactly the same amount of practice time for final car set-up and to get familiar with the track.

Therefore enties will close at midnight on Wednesday, 4.August so that we can produce the scheduled practice sessions for Friday, 6.August. For this reason any late entries cannot be accepted as we are not able to accommodate them into the practice schedule.

So, it is very important to get your entry form in asap. The forms can be obtained from the APC website and send by e-mail or printed and send by letter mail to the address featured on the form.

The race classes will be the same as last years APC in Melbourne however the race format is different as in 2010 there will only be single driver classes and no team events.

First up on Saturday 7, August will be the GT Cars in 1/32 scale in two Divisions with separate classification :

First 1/24 Class will be the Historic Can-Am and Sports Cars with vaccum formed bodies :

First 1/24 Hard Plastic Body Class will be the Group C Sports Cars on Saturday afternoon :

On Sunday morning the 1/24 Formula 1 will have their big moment :

Final race event on the APC weekend will be the international format with 1/24 Japanese GT Cars :

As mentioned before, all information about the APC can be read on the Website .

Of course, if you have questions about the event please contact me anytime. There is still enough time to build some cars and get involved.......

Cheers

Werner

Hi guys,

Only two days to go to the big event and we certainly can see that all preparations are well under way now.

Last Monday we could welcome our first three guests from Japan. In the evening we had the final test + tune session at Andrew's Narangba Raceway.

Today was the first track installation day at Torque Ford and the shier size of the Plafit Masters Track could be realized for the first time.

The timing system will be installed tomorrow and by Thursday everything should be up and running.

As a last minute decision there will now be two options for the controller connections with the QLD version (3-point round earth pin female socket) and the American colored three single 4mm banana plug system. Most of our interstate competitors will probably stay with the announced three single plug system however all our local racers can of course now use their usual 3-point plug if they want to.

As the entries will close tomorrow, we will be able to welcome over 30 of the best model car racers from four states as well as from Japan. We will have a total race car entry of over 120 cars pretty evenly spread in all five classes.

The practice schedule for day one (Friday) will be available late Thursday. So it it advisable not to be too late for practice day as at this stage things will kick off at 8:00am as stated on the provisional time table.

I wish you all a good trip to North Lakes and we'll see you on Friday.

Cheers

Werner

Are we able to come up and watch the racing Werner?

That track looks impressive - would love to see it for real.

cheers

...Of course. Everybody is welcome on all three days.

Have a look at the provisional time table at the APC website and select what you would like to see.

Torque Ford has "open house" this coming weekend. On Sunday the QLD Ford GT Club will visit and the car park will house a dozend or so beautiful Ford GT and GT40 replicas.

Cheers

Hi guys,

I would like to wish each and everyone attending the APC a huge "all-the-best". An enormous amount of hard work has gone into the making of this event - the Japanese Plafit guys, headed by Akiro Banno and the local guys Werner, Andrew and Peter (and many more that nobody hears about) have been at this non-stop for most of 2010 so far.

Good luck to all and may you have fantastic racing with old mates and form fantastic new friendships.

Cheers

So all is set for the 2010 APC to begin on Friday.

Wow, That is in my opinion the best track layout I have ever seen. Running on a neutral circuit was a brainwave and a great way to go. Remember TRIGGER HARD DOWN, DON'T FALL OFF....I'm jealous and all the best to everyone.....

Well Done to Both Troy AND especially John Wiley,..Way to Go Guys !!!

Not sure about his Car,..He Does have a Mosler of his own,..and I gave him My Maserati and Aston in case he needed them as well, Have No idea what car he ran.

He ran a white and black Mosler and won in an exciting race with Simon.

Might have been His then,..although I'm not sure What Difference it Makes, Whose car he Ran, as especially in That Class, against That Field of drivers, it's about Staying ON AND Being Quick!

As in our Retro classes, it seems hardly Anyone actually 'Builds/assembles' their Own cars these days,..sigh,..Troy's Mosler, would have been built and 'Spannered' by Wayne, in fact as far as I am aware, Simon, would probably have been running cars built by Andrew.

Builder-Racers appear to be a somewhat 'Rare Breed' these days!!,..:)

One only has to peruse the Results of the Various Classes of racing at HSC to Note Troy's Obvious capabilities as a Driver!,... ;)

Well Done Simon btw,..Who came 3rd?

Who came 3rd?

A new comer who has only been racing slot cars for 3 - 4 months in total. His name is Steve, surname Dever (I think). Real nice guy and a very popular result for our little French friend. Well done to everyone. These 3 drivers were the Division 1 winners of course. I can't remember the winners name for Division 2 but he was a most popular winner and a real nice guy, Greg from Vic was 2nd and Kin Axton 3rd.

That's why I asked. I could never hope to compete against the professionally built cars that I can't afford.
