I will be attending, great opportunity to meet up with some of the Hornsby guys,I'm hoping to get some of our Central Coast/Hunter group boys to come along as well.

Although the competition will be hot,its all about being involved and not being intimidated by the occasion.

I've never been to Hornsby as yet

Easy to miss. When driving north out of Sydney it's about the time you plant the foot down - whoops - missed Hornsby again!

If work travel permits - I'll give it a shot.

I can't believe that I wanted to grow up

Hi all Shane is going to do a big push at our club to attract a couple of teams for this event, we are going to put up a poster promoting the event this week all going well we should be able to get a couple of teams/racers up for this event.

Is their any links to the raceway and track that is to be used so that we can provide our members with all of the background, if so please let me know.

If we could get this up as a regular and popular event it would be great for the sport in Aus.

regards

Sounds like the guys have put in a bit of risk to do this so deserve to be supported. I would love to go and put my inferior driving talents on national display. I get hammered by Shane everytime i race him locally so travelling to Sydney to get thrashed by more good drivers seems like a great chance for a reality check and some humiliation.

All jokes aside Should be great I have never driven on gloss before so i have a built in excuse already. What tyres work on that sort of track? Be good if we can get a good SA contingent up there and will make for a great social weekend with the boys. Should get a few of the Vics up there as its not far for them. Be great to get the rules all sorted and start the builds and testing early.

I am amused at the apprehension regarding a gloss track. The grip will almost certainly be more than you are used to on ferrodor. We have found just recently that if we wipe our NSR Ultragrips with fuelite a few times, even if left alone for a day or two, that there is so much grip the motors can barely turn the wheels in a straight line! The grip is like driving with magnets. Just be aware silicone tires cannot be trued easily and it is best to do it by running a lot of laps on the track. I know it is an inaccurate method of measuring grip, but in our recent enduro my team's enduro car was capable of 13 feet per second on a track with few straights, using the Slot.it silicones and orange endbell motors. I am sure this would compare favourably with your tracks using ferrodor and rubber?

If the tyre rules are left as they have been for the last 3 years than it will be MJK 's or standard tyres only. :huh2:

Nothing will change. NO need, tyre rule should stay as always. Lets all wait for the draft. :)

Hey you will be right on this as you have done it before. Probably was a dopey question really but was just thinking out loud.. Truth is it will just be a hoot to meet some other grown ups that play with toy cars and realize i am not the only one who is a bit obsessed with plastic models circulating a man made track. I think it would be great for the hobby if these types of events are well attended and well reported so others can be inspired to "have a go" Winning or losing is not really the issue but learning a bit and having fun should be high on the objective list.

Thanks for the link Yngwie do you know if there are any photos available (which are not on the Hornsby site) that show an overall view of the track(s) if so please PM me with someimages please.

If the track is gloss and gooed like Mobile Raceways (Mr Slotcar) the grip will definitly not be an issue but too much may be for some of us that race on ferridor

Hi again guys,..SO Glad to Hear there are quite a few People/Groups interested in attending the Event !!!

As far as Tyres go,..to be Honest, I am actually Unsure as to What/Which Brands or types will Work 'Best' as such.

I Know the guys running Scalextric, Basically just run the Standard Scaley Tyres, (which I have also done) and there certainly seems to be 'Grip' !!

For our regular Retro Racing, we do run the Track 'Prepared' with Spray Goo, as we Obviously run Foam Rear Tyres.

The Plafit racing is held on a Pretty Clean surface and with the Standard Plafit tyres also seems to work extremely well.

I have tried one of my NSR 917's around there and the Standard Tyres certainly seemed to Provide Plenty of Grip as well.

I had tried a set of Ortmanns on My Scaley Camaro some time ago and would suggest they possibly provided Too Much Grip !!,..lol

As far as Silicones go, I must admit I AM a Fan of Clean Track and Silicon Racing, but would suggest that without a Lot of Track Cleaning and 'Prep', would Not actually be the Best choice for the HSC surface, as it has had Waay too many Years running Goo and WD40 etc.

For those that have Never Seen the Track, here are a couple of Pictures, that may give you some Idea of the Track and it's Elevations etc.

The Track was designed and built by Gary Johnson, about 20 years ago,..Sheesh, We Are all getting Old !! Somewhat Scary to realize that!,..lol

It has 100mm Lane Centres and is 110 feet long and runs Right to Left along the Main Straight(whilst standing at the Drivers Panel).

Cheers :)

Any word on the rules yet Shane. I have been talking to the guys at the shop and we should have a few people attending as we run a few class that are very similar. Once seeing the rules I would maybe even adjusting some of our club racing rules to line up with the event.

Regards

Mat

Why race on any old figure 8 track when you could be racing on a track designed to replicate a piece of Australian motorsport history like Oran Park Raceway.

Hi Mat,

I have been chatting with Shane over the past few days and also with both Wayne and James at HSC and am in fact meeting with Wayne tomorrow to Finalise and format all the rules for the various classes as proposed.

So hopefully they will be uploaded for Download with appropriate 'links' provided on the various Forums over the next couple of days.

Hi Guys,

I finally got around to reading this thread, and find it necessary to clear up some anomalies!

In 2007 we (Mobile Raceways) decided to take on the task of initiating a National event in 2008 predominantly for 1:32 scale racers. And included a small band of dedicated local 1:32 racers to help formulate the first 2008 MCN.

In 2008 we were hosting the 1:24 Australian Slot Car Nationals (Flexi's and Wing Cars) over the Easter weekend, and made the brave decision to run the first MCN on our other track (the 155' Kingleman) at the same time. And to ensure the entries wouldn't let the event down, seeing how it was the first of its kind. We got Werner involved to include some of the Plafit model car classes. (And we know how well Plafit has taken off nationally since then!)

Our entry numbers were modest and many thanks were given to the guys that came from the Qld Plafit circles to attend the first running of the MCN. Even some of the Flexi and Wing car racers jumped the fence and had a go! Now keep in mind that at M.R. we DO NOT have regular 1:32 racing AT ALL !! So we had to rely on the locals to help round up and promote the event over forums and thru word of mouth.

The following year Dapto put up their hands to host the next MCN, where 1:32 scale racing is really strong. So Werner and I flew to NSW and met up with the guys at Dapto. After a few hours of Q & A a basic format was in place.

In 2010 we were really really hoping that maybe Qld or S.A. would be interested in hosting the 2010 MCN. But that wasn't to be! So we hosted it back at M.R. again. Now keep in mind, we DO NOT have any regular 1:32 racing at M.R., so we had to rely on our local guys again to do the promoting. And I must say the efforts of these guys goes without saying, as they had to face the petty and sometimes silly arguements on this forum about the legalities of hosting such an event.

As it turned out, the entries were rather sad! Yet the indications earlier from guys in NSW was that there were some going to make the journey to Dandenong. But alas, they backed out! I hope I am wrong, but it seems there are more knockers than supporters for a National 1:32 scale competition. Nevertheless, we were not going to pull the pin on what might eventually be a truly National competition for 1:32 scale model cars over the following years.

The 2011 MCN was then offered to Horsnby, and we are so thankful they took it on. Because there are already too few venues in Australia to rotate this event around the country.

When the boys at Hornsby first drafted the classes and schedule, they obviously and rightly so, tuned the event to their own specific needs. BUT, the essence of the MCN was lost! So after a phone call and outlining the important elements that make up the MCN, the boys at Hornsby made the relevant changes. And we are very grateful for their co-operation and support in keeping the MCN rolling for another year.

Their is no committee or body that negiotates or co-ordinates the MCN. Just phone calls, interstate meetings, and lots of emails between Raceways to keep it moving around the country as best as it can with the help and support of the local Raceways and their racers. It's not perfect, but it's a start!

So get behind this event wherever it might be held. You'll be surpirsed how much you will enjoy the racing and meeting new friends. And putting faces to usernames on this and other forums. It is an event that was specifically designed at the 1:32 scale racer ... YOU!!!!

There is a T-shirt that comes out of the USA from Wright Way Products I think, and it simply says ... "JUST SHUT-UP, AND RACE".

we need more supporting quotes like these ....

Quote ... Although the competition will be hot, its all about being involved and not being intimidated by the occasion

For the uninitiated running out of your "comfort zone" can be quite daunting, the big fear is "I'm goin' to get my a***e kicked big time".

reminds me of my 1st attempt at running with the big boys probably back about mid 90's,I had been away from slots for quite a while and was slowly getting back into racing at my local track(Hornsby)then there was a series called the "baxter" series for 1/24 nascars,I was talked into it and had a ball.

We did get our butts kicked, but the experience was so good, learnt a lot,and made mates with guys that I am still racing against today, and they are still kicking my butt!

I'm trying to get some of the boys from central coast interested, been hard to get them enthused, but this weekends 4 hour at Armchair will be a good start.

I know we will all enjoy the day,I mean to say,how bad can it be?

4 hours slot car racing with slotits?

Bring it on!

Don't let petty issues get in the way of being involved, you will not regret it.

Terry
