Ontheflipside
Have checked all the cars but having trouble getting these two cars to work around the track without 6 marshals Also had some trouble with Gazza's and my Fiat. Both OK now. So all looks good for a good race SO FAR! Mount Panorama can take its toll and as this event uses that circuit in the Mount Saltpanorama Rally X it is worthy of showing what it can do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g3w7hV6930&feature=related For those new to this event - here is the Mount Saltpanorama Road and RallyX circuit (Shot and put together last year by Yngwie) Some more details MSP Track here Edited February 11, 2011 by Ontheflipside Quote I can't believe that I wanted to grow up Mount Salt Panorama Track Combined Road and Rally Track built near Salt Pan Creek Padstow - Sydney A quick build rally track 2017 WRP Round 11 at Mt Salt Panorama https://i128.photobu...zpss7sqiwfj.jpg
inveterate retiree
Wow! That 2nd video really shows off the brilliant track layout. Hat's off to all concerned with the creation of that one. Quote I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing. Well I don't now. I'm over it! Ontheflipside
It's a bit warm at the track and the lads have been a bit bored Some were just sooo bored . . . . . so I thought I would do a Top Ten Shootout. When driving in Proxy's I feel I get the best out of cars when I start with the slowest and work up to the quickest. Normally I would either use their finishing order in the last round or current standings on the points table. In this instance I have chosen the latter as below. (I notice the table I posted last week I had the colour codes wrong - the green should be blue and vice versa) Now the Top Ten Shoot Out Each of the top ten (above) did three warm up laps then one flying lap. Results: So the running order for the three stages will be: PS: I will be off line for the next 34 hours Edited February 11, 2011 by Ontheflipside Quote I can't believe that I wanted to grow up Mount Salt Panorama Track Combined Road and Rally Track built near Salt Pan Creek Padstow - Sydney A quick build rally track 2017 WRP Round 11 at Mt Salt Panorama https://i128.photobu...zpss7sqiwfj.jpg
Ontheflipside
Racing has been underway but I haven't copied the results from SRM yet. In the mean time some of you might remember that last year the "Tree Huggers" were out protesting on our way to the track Not this year, but some women were protesting on another matter. Some of the spectators helped out to move the protesters on but it got a bit rough The local law were on the pit girls side WE are not sexist here The drivers did a walk around the main road track earlier - for the 10 lap mountain sprint . . . . while the crowd was starting to build up Just before the rally racing - some classic cars showed us what they could do and then the Aussie V8 utes gave us some thrills. The camera choppers are in the air and the top of the mountain is ready so lets go racing. The 1st stage is 10 laps of the main race track then with this track and and the dirt rally sections being used for stage 2 & 3 This 1st stage is in memory of the late Peter Brock who has been aptly named the "King of the Mountain" Whilst the 1st stage is a road race track (or street circuit) it will give us an idea of how fast each car is and may be some indicator of how the car will go north of the equator. Any how that's enough blabber and a good break from racing and time to download results. While you are waiting, here is a video introducing the 1:1 Mount Panorama Circuit. The Mount SaltPanorama is a very close replica of the real track with shape, the mountain, humps and curves. Stay tuned the results of stage one very soon Edited February 13, 2011 by Ontheflipside Quote I can't believe that I wanted to grow up Mount Salt Panorama Track Combined Road and Rally Track built near Salt Pan Creek Padstow - Sydney A quick build rally track 2017 WRP Round 11 at Mt Salt Panorama https://i128.photobu...zpss7sqiwfj.jpg

Ontheflipside
The navigators have checked their pace notes. Some cars had some settings changed after the "10 lap dash" The Cheer Squad were screaming at the start and especially the Aussie girls ramping up the local drivers The 10 lap mountain sprint (stgae 1) was run at 11.6 Volts using a Slotit controller adjusted to each car after a warm up. This, the second stage we run at 12 volts. One of the marshals did 2 - 3 warm up laps then I did one (sometimes two) warm up laps to adjust then controller. While some cars liked the 12 volts it was tough concentrating with 32 cars for over two minutes each. This was a lot of fun trying to wring the cars neck for 4 x 30 odd second laps. As this stage is called "Rally X Sprint" Results: I will post the progressive (Stage 1 & 2) shortly. Luckily the Sydney weather cooperated and was cool for the running of your round! You gotta be happy with your cars! Cheers John Hey John you should have stayed for stage 2 (John drove stage 1) Some how I was able to get a bit more out of your car. It liked 12 volts and with some extra miles under its belt it should improve. My # 52 car is last years but just changed the body with the different livery. Should have left it as was because everyone has one of these now. It won the last round at Gazza's last year and 2nd in class 2 for the series. It seemed to be getting better as the series went on. So thought it may have done better here. Third stage to go yet. My #19 car went brilliantly here last night and it was a dark horse. A last minute entry when I couldn't fire up the Lancia 037 well enough. I picked the Lancia Delta S4 as Anthony's same car last year was a screamer here. So yes pretty happy - may be some home track advantage Still a long way to go on different tracks. Ontheflipside
We have been all fired up here for the final "Enduro Stage" The overall winning car in this stage handled so well it never looked like coming off. A bit of a surprise package really. This stage was run at 11.6 Volts Time to see the JB girls for a refreshment while I compile the stages Quote I can't believe that I wanted to grow up Mount Salt Panorama Track Combined Road and Rally Track built near Salt Pan Creek Padstow - Sydney A quick build rally track 2017 WRP Round 11 at Mt Salt Panorama https://i128.photobu...zpss7sqiwfj.jpg
Ontheflipside
Round 3 has been run and won Winners are: Class 1 1st Car # 101 Wolves - Renault 2nd Car # 26 Kidvoltage - Stratos 3rd Car # 5 Anthony - Stratos Class 2 1st Car # 52 OTFS - Fiat 131 Abarth 2nd Car # 102 Wolves - Fiat 131 Abarth 3rd Car # 1 Devious Dave - Renault Alpine Class 3 (and outright winners) 1st Car # 19 OTFS - Lancia Delta S4 2nd Car # 2 RallyP - Toyota Celica Car # 3 Gazza - Porsche 959 Bit embarrassed that I have taken out 2 classes this year (and class 1 & 2 last year). I suppose the track owner has a bit of an advantage. The # 52 car is last years Fiat 131 Abarth which went extremely well in the whole series but with the newer livery body. Left everything else as was except new tyres. The # 19 car Lancia Delta S4 was a last minute entry due to me not being able to get my Lancia 037 running well enough. I was impressed last year with Anthony's Lancia Delta S4 (entered again this year but not on the same pace) so I'm quite happy with it. Hoping it will get better as the series goes on. Whilst embarrassed, I'm a bit surprised really but would have been disappointed if they were not somewhere near the pointy end. Congratulations to all the other podiumites and others who have shown some improvement since the second round. A long way to go yet folks. Ontheflipside
I was a bit tired last night and omitted to thank the fabulous helpers in running this round. This was the second proxy in just a few weeks. A big thanks goes to John (Yngwie), Kai (Mohawk) Dave (Devious Dave) for help with timing gear, driving and marshaling. Also to my wife (and one of the daughters occasionally) for marshaling as well plus keeping the food and coffee up to us. Without that help these events could not happen. Ontheflipside
I have been tossing around whether to do this or not. Some read it some don't. It does take time to do but I had some spare time last night and this morning so here goes . . . These comments are from MY perspective of the cars performance on MY track. I'm no expert in setting up cars but some may find the comments helpful or food for thought. Had trouble reading my shorthand so hopefully these comments are accurate. Been a while since I wrote them. I notice the comments are a bit hard to read. If so click on the pic to enlarge The Mini wanted to go every where except the track Some rode up on the banks or took short cuts Lancia 037's were good at bouncing off walls. Added a soft sign since last year to save damage. Some just slide around collect rocks and people A quick pick up and a light weight finish. The 037's were not the only cars to get off line A few just couldn't handle the hump on a curve at the top of the mountain Some couldn't handle the rally track hump to the mountain top either Some could (great shot Mrs Camera Lady) Some just couldn't go slow enough on the loop Some more action shots later when I get a chance to crop and edit etc. Also a video (one day) Edited February 24, 2011 by Ontheflipside Quote I can't believe that I wanted to grow up Mount Salt Panorama Track Combined Road and Rally Track built near Salt Pan Creek Padstow - Sydney A quick build rally track 2017 WRP Round 11 at Mt Salt Panorama https://i128.photobu...zpss7sqiwfj.jpg

Ontheflipside
That little kiss I gave your car before it left John must have helped. He had told me a lot were having trouble with grip and his track suits the urethane tyres best (same here). Also run at 13 volts so he might reduce the power a bit for the three stages. Although the SCX motors seem to like the extra juice. Look at the Wagga kid go! It does take time to do but I had some spare time last night and this morning so here goes . . . Thanks very much for the comments Mel, this sort of in depth feedback is really appreciated. With my cars the Stratos which seemed to cause you much anguish is actually slightly changed from last year, it has the gearing from another Stratos, a new motor the tyres are now SCX Delta rears from the S4 I am running in the series. The S4 itself has new tyres but is otherwise unchanged, I wasn't sure if the same formula would work again and so far it hasn't,, however it may start to come good looking at the latest qualifying. The Talbot was just 'cos i didn't want to run the same three cars again!!!!
