Guest jazzbell
First of all i'd like to thank the owner of Thunderbird raceway Chris Osborne for our new track that is going into our club in Adelaide. This has created a good buzz knowing this is coming to our club . Another big thanks has to go to the guy's at KAR Joinery at Holden hill for the machine work of the track, thanks again Keith and Russell Being our new toy at our club i'd like to share the track build . As everyone knows it will be the track for next years 2012 Scale Model Nationals. The track fits in an area 9m x 3.2m. Lane lengths are 38m so it's a great size . So here's some starter pictures of the build. The first 2 photo's are from the office above. It's all happening now so i'll be keeping everyone posted regards shane a team thunderbird

Guest jazzbell
Gonna be a nice track that. Hope I may see it in person one day. My first impression was shock. I hope we measured right, it looks to big. I've gone back today to take photo's and it looked even bigger. Not to worry as it will fit . The track is similar to are big track at the raceway, around 8 to 9 metres longer and more flowing. I hope we get to see plenty more new faces at our club with this track, local and interstate. regards shane a team thunderbird

Hi stoo, The track is a good size and the hard part is trying to fit something decent in size at Thunderbirds. Note the place is only around 250square metres with another 3 tracks. We do know of the fun marshal spot and i think that corner has to have a name, that name be DON'T COME OFF CORNER  Nice looking track Shane, are lane spacings 100mm? - Cam Top of my head Cam 105/110mm. Great looking track. I might have to start coming racing at thunderbirds. More than welcome any time. first corner crash
I had a good look a the pics today and those inside lanes are going to be fun to marshall on the return straight. Might need a permanent tall guy to marshall there. Counts you an me out Shane. I am sure its going to be analogue as during discussions i don't even think one person raised the idea of scorpius or digital. Quote 4x national champion 6x national runner up. Guest jazzbell
Well i 'm happy to say i had my cars on the new thunderbird track first from our club. Some more progress by Keith and Russell on the track build.Today dropped in to see the borders tacking place. First thing that caught my eye was the cuts outs on the outer borders, looks awesome. Reason for this is so you can see through on some of the corners. Plenty of room with the Scaleauto's..1/24's..... regards shane a team thunderbird Edited November 18, 2011 by jazzbell

dazza
It looks like a marshalls nightmare..if theres an off under the bridge it will just about stop the race to clear the track. Quote Midwestern Model Raceway.
ForestRaceway
Hi Shane, Thanks for the photos. Track looks impressive. I really like the bridge edging - gives the track its own character. I also like the look of the big radius curve of the 2nd bridge. I'm a big fan of large radius curves that require the controller to be gently squeezed although it does depend on how much grip your car has (with good grip it becomes closer to a straight). As people have mentioned, the inner section looks like it could be a little problematic. Positioning the driver stations so the drivers get to see both corners in and out of the inner straight (especially being able to see the braking zone) is going to be a challenge but I'm sure you'll work it out. I look forward to putting some cars on it - it very much looks like a 1/24th scale track. Will it be Ferrodore? Wade
Guest jazzbell
Hi Wade, The drivers are going to have a raised platform drivers station so we can look down on the track so all a short people like myself can look down on the corners and have a clear veiw of the track. As for the bridge section for the marshals, that section of the track will be cut out,not solid as shows in the photo. The marshal can reach know problems under the bridge. Not ferrodore this track Wade, going for paving paint Wade, something different. regards shane a team thunderbird
first corner crash
I can echo that thing about the bridge we have a track with a similar layout now and marshalling under the bridge isn"t any real drama. Of course there are better places to come out but it's less problematical than it appears. The inside corners on the next corner are going to be the harder part but i think there may be a raised marshalling platform built and also the track itself won't be set really high so it should be ok. Cleveland
Awesome looking track alright. I had the pleasure of viewing it before it gets painted, It looks a lot bigger in real life. The bridge railings are a real standout. A great touch of detail to the track The track surface is going to be light grey gloss (paving paint) with blue trim. Should look a treat. waytofast
nice looking track. im glad you put some 1:24 cars on it, gives a better perspective on the actual size of the track. its always exciting when a new track is being built. well done fellas. hope to get over there one day. steve
bov
Really impressive looking! Are the drivers stations going to be along the main straight, or elsewhere? Quote Cheers, Tony. Cleveland
Hi all I have a few updated pic's of the track's progress from Chris Osborne. It's looking awesome..................... The painting has been quite time consuming, firstly the entire track and surrounds was primed and then the track surface was blocked back (like spray painting a car) and sprayed in a light grey paving paint. That was left for a few days, and then the rest of the track was sprayed. The finish looks amazing. I believe the drivers box is now going to be on the side (main straight), thus giving a better view of the entire ciruit. Still quite a bit to do,but well on track to be up and running in the new year. The following pic's go though a few stages, Clevo Quote Resized to 83% (was 1006 x 146) - Click image to enlarge

Guest jazzbell
This is perfection at it's best everyone. Big thanks has to go to the man with the spray gun ,Mr Clevo. People that don't know Clevo, what ever he does or touches has to be perfect and that's how the paint job has come out. We sort out plenty of advise on the best way to coat the track and we believe this is the way to go.Track looks like a mirror. regards shane a team thunderbird

Ontheflipside
A piece of art really! The whole job and the painting looks brilliant. Must plan a few days work in Adelaide when it's finished the track surface was blocked back (like spray painting a car) and sprayed in a light grey paving paint.
