Excellent night in the shed Pedro. 13 of the finest elite racers; even with 3 regulars and “Replacement-Marty” absent.
Shout out to everyone for the best supper supplies seen in some while (except of course when mrs “Race-Catering” is taking care of us).

For those of you not aware, it is now 18 years since we formed HBMRC and started building our original Ninco club track.  Mac, Jason, EME, Ross and myself were all part of that startup.
I THINK that Pedro and Smithy arrived just a couple or 3 years later …. Not sure who I may have missed from the current crew.
Munter, Bryan Forbes, EME’s lad Aaron … and Wongie were also founding members. Some slo-Jo called Mike was part of it as well …..

Yep, great night Pete, and funnie we were catching up about the origins of the group, (and past ones that were associated with in the past) during our drive home. The type of cars, and tracks those involved raced on, the skill that has developed in making the hobby better. People we are missing, and how far slot cars have come as a hobby. There's a still a great love for those involved to still be a part.....in showing it off.

Do you think its time to merge. DTM as shown in this link are now allowing GT3 cars to race

https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/dtm-14577

Something to chat about Maybe allow the motors up to 25k . Would be interesting to see the Calibra running . Anyway can we think about it. This would bring the class into line. And it would be quite exciting.

Smithy, you’re missing the class principles.

DTM is a controlled glue and true class, (like Group C); and it’s a historic class from the 90s, not a modern day class. The cars are completely different from the modern GT and modern DTM cars which are massively lower and wider.

If we were going to merge any classes, it would be merge GT1 and GT3 as the rules are already now identical since the GT3 motor restriction was removed, and a number of the actual (real) cars race in motor racing events around the world in both GT3 and GT1 anyway.

Yes agree Mark but why does it have to be 90s era DTM. All the cars came from your shop if I remember at the time. All I'm saying is that in real life racing they changed the rules and now GT3s are racing in DTM class. But your comment on GT3 merging into GT1 is probably the way to go. Just a discussion point. And should be discussed.

“Yes agree Mark but why does it have to be 90s era DTM.”

BECAUSE - simply, DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft) was a controlled tin top touring car saloon car class created in the 90s, solely for the Alfa and German saloon cars (race versions of daily use saloons of the day).

“All the cars came from your shop if I remember at the time.”

Yes, as the importer of the sole brand manufacturer, after I ran two events showcasing them, and suggested that they would make a good entry level for tuning  “glue and true” class, as they run well out of the box, and are cheap and easy to set up. There were never intended to be any alterations to that, but Mac set the rules open and built that sidewinder unit.

“All I'm saying is that in real life racing they changed the rules and now GT3s are racing in DTM class. “

That isn’t quite correct. The class was a closed set of rules and ran from 1984-1986 then ceased entirely. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Tourenwagen_Meisterschaft

The modern racing class IS essentially GT3 sports cars with a specific set of rules, which just appropriated the DTM acronym for nostalgia (I presume) and marketing purposes. There is no other commonality, - and it is a SPORTS car series.

DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, German Touring Car Masters) is a sports car racing series sanctioned by ADAC. The series is based in Germany, with rounds elsewhere in Europe. The series currently races a modified version of Group GT3 grand touring cars, replacing the silhouette later Class 1 touring cars of earlier years.”

Love a good classes chat.  My 2 cents.  We need a good mix of low, medium & high powered classes.  90's DTM is a good mid speed class with a good variety of models and liveries.  Modern DTM has evolved so much and yes I agree it would basically be GT3 (and make all our current investments redundant.)  The line between GT1 & GT3 has blurred so we could combine.  It would be an opportunity to find something new if we wanted to keep with 3 different classes in rotation.  A new class adds expense but can be refreshing.

They are only toys .... until you pull the trigger.
