SlotsNZ
Hi Phil my own PC IS a laptop, so all my yesting is done that way. This is the cable/trader I have used mostly http://www.ebay.com/itm/win7-win8-64-bits-OK-USB-to-FTDI-RS-232-RS232-Serial-TTL-Adapter-Cable-/321033443631?pt=US_Parallel_Serial_PS_2_Cables_Adapters&hash=item4abf15992f But I've also bought what APPEAR to be identical green ones - with the integral silver cable, from same seller and different sellers; and had batches that worked, and batches I had to throw away, and I bought a batch like this one with the plug in lead, and the one batch of those, works okay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-to-RS232-Serial-9-Pin-DB9-high-speed-Adapter-/150833401098?pt=US_Parallel_Serial_PS_2_Cables_Adapters&hash=item231e5f0d0a One issue is always the customer's version of windows, and what drivers are unpacked for it (which is often less for laptops), and whether they also have been doing windows updates for it, or have dragged it out of storage after 5 years or so. It does seem that WIN7 now supports some driver chipsets as well as the PL2303 based chipset, that these Chinese makers are putting into the adapter leads, so a later model PC may hold advantages. But if all else fails, I still have serial - serial cables, and they always work 100% out of the box, and suggest them for people who don't have a lot of PC knowledge, and have a serial port on their older desktop or laptop. kalbfellp
Mark I have tried a few of the green adapters, both with and without the cable attached, all have given some sort of problems. I have also tried what look like similar black ones but having different label to the one you have linked to. I do have one in transit for that supplier as well. I do agree about serial cables and ports but they are starting to be a thing of the past now! Bit like trying to find PC with printer ports to run my Alps Printers! SlotsNZ
Hi Phil yep, that black one - actually it's a darkish blue cable end, has the full list of drivers for different OS shown as a link in the auction. - Quite useful, but people still need to have enough knowledge to download and install. http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm Quote Recovering Lapsed Slot Addict * Custodian of many used screws (mostly loose ) * Total kidder * Companion of other delusional slot addicts
