Springbok Racer
Hi guys, As provided for at the end of 2012 when we agreed the current regulations for 2013, we now have a chance to make certain amendments and clarifications to our rules. These amendments and clarifications will be incorporated into the 2013 regulations as at the end of March. Thereafter the regulations will again be locked until we get another chance as provided for, at the end of June. This is what we had agreed - quoted from the regulations: THESE REGULATIONS ARE NOW LOCKED FOR 2013. THE ONLY CHANGES FROM NOW ON WILL BE WHEN NEWLY RELEASED CARS HAVE BEEN PARITY TESTED FOR INCLUSION IN THESE REGULATIONS OR WHEN ANY SPECIFIC PART IS REPLACED BY SCALE AUTO WITHOUT NOTICE. THESE AMMENDMENTS (if required) WILL ONLY TAKE PLACE AT THE END OF MARCH, JUNE AND SEPTEMBER 2013. THESE TYPES OF CHANGES WILL ALWAYS BE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF CARS AND PARTS TO EVERYONE RACING IN AUSTRALIA - AVAILABILITY ON THE WWW WILL BE CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE. So then, here are two such amendments and clarifications that I would like to suggest: - That we include the new BMW Z4 into our regulations and allow it to be run with the lexan window and interior set. I also believe both rear wings should be allowed, but that the second rear wing, on both versions, between the wing mounting legs should be retained when flexible wing mountings are used. - That the minimum front wheel diameter is clearly stated as 26.5mm and not to be confused with the part to be used. Please let us have your comments, specific to this topic. Once we've updated the regulations at the end of March, this topic will be locked. Springbok Racer
is there any reason why a slightly smaller front wheel diameter could be set to make the front end of the cars easier to setup without spacers and bending of guide tongues ? Jason, A few points here; - No, we cannot change any rules at this stage, you are welcome to raise the minimum front wheel diameter again when the 2014 regulations are discussed at the end of 2013. - You are not allowed to deliberately bend or modify any part of the chassis. - From most guys building experience, I don't believe anyone have had a problem with setup or guide spacing so far. Perhaps when you come over next time for a go at EE.au we can have a look at your problem and how you what most of us do to setup space the guide. Cheers, Jan 'The older I get the faster I was.' Springbok Racer
i don't see in the rules where you can't bend any chassis parts, Jason, Only saw your post after the test-n-tune tonight, otherwise I would have answered you then. Basically the following is quoted directly from the regulations: 'MODIFICATIONS: (a) It is not permitted to modify the RTR car or white kit in any way other than those parts of free make as described by Art. 1.1.1 (B )' Anyway, we did get a chance to discuss your dilemma and I believe we resolved the issue you had. Chadly
yes, i can see how peoples interpretation of "modifying" wouldn't nessecarily include "bending". this is why i asked the question "wouldnt straightening a chassis be seen as modifying"? axman
This post is for racers that actually race Scaleauto. It has been posted by Jan as a structured discussion for inclusion ( or exclusion) of standard Scaleauto parts as and when released and is not related to modifications of factory parts. Having seen the Z4 perform I'm sure it's going to fit in well with this style of racing. It's heavier than the Porsche but with virtually no overhangs and decent size wheel arches looks a lot easier to set up. Think I'll be doing a body change... Anyone want a cheap Jag? Garry J
I can't see any problem with bending the chassis, after all the best setup is a dead flat chassis set at minimum clearance. If you want to go slow, by all means bend away. Cheers, Garry J Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill
paulthetexan
Hi Gary I think Jason was talking about the guide tongue in particular so you can use the standard guide as apposed to being forced to use a non-standard MRRC cut down guide . Springbok Racer
Hi everyone, Thanks for your positive input via this forum, phone calls and emails. It would seem this topic has now served it's purpose and the required amendments will be included with our 2013 regulations. This topic will now be locked and a new one will again be started just before the end of June to discuss any further amendments if required. Cheers, Jan 'The older I get the faster I was.'
