Can someone tell me what is the braid recess at Hornsby? Will front clearance be measured on the block or with recess allowed for ? Will the fronts have to touch a setup board if there is a braid recess?

4x national champion 6x national runner up. I come second most often but my girlfriends happy.

Trevor, these cars are checked on a board with a big hole for the guide, so the car is sitting on the front wheels.

You can put the guide up or down wherever you like.

Cheers. That sounds sensible. Is there a recess at all ? I can't remember.

It's recessed a little. Don't forget the track is 19 or 20 years old and has been rebraided a couple of times. I rebraided most of it fairly recently and made a lot of repairs on the rebate so it's still smooth, but it's not perfect.

Getting back to front wheels, these cars are heavy and underpowered so to get the best out of them you need the least rolling resistance you can get. Both ends of the car, especially the bearings, have to be square and the front tires hardened so they don't grip the track. If I was to advise a beginner I'd say start with a straight car and set the guide so the braids have 0.5 to 1 mm movement under the guide and go from there. The problem with these races is were're all up against 23 other guys who know how to build a car.

Cheers,

Garry J
