Wobble
I've got two of these and neither gets much of a run these days so I decided to try and upgrade one a bit without resorting to a 3D printed chassis. The standard tyres are too big so Scaley Mustang rears sanded down are on the front and NSR tyres on the rear and the body lowered on the chassis about 1.5-2mm. Initially I thought about trying to convert it to sidewinder but then I decided to attempt to use as much of the stock chassis and running gear as I could so the motor mount was cut out and superglued and epoxied into the rear and the front filled with a bit of old bank card. The motor is an Ebay 18k find and the adapter is one from ZeGas. At 82gm all up and with tracks as wide as a Scaley Camaro I'm hoping it might be a reasonably competitive runner in our 18k Trans Am and American Muscle class. There's also a Cobra Daytona Coupe in the drawer that might get the same treatment if this runs as good as it looks. SlotsNZ
I always liked the look of those Rusty but never picked one up. That is one fine liking mod - is the body a bit “Carrera-heavy” though ? How quick do you have it running so far? Camaros and mustangs rule in HB and I wouldn’t mind having something different to run - Also have a Cougar to chop sometime over summer Quote Recovering Lapsed Slot Addict * Custodian of many used screws (mostly loose ) * Total kidder * Companion of other delusional slot addicts
slotmadmac
Looking good. I'll be keen to know how you get on racing it. Quote Podiums are for short people.
Wobble
The looks of the car has always worked for me too and when I had the chance of the 2nd car recently I got it with the intention of modifying it. I also picked up a Cobra Daytona and another Revell silver wide body racing E-Type to do like Mac did a few years ago so I'm hoping this was worth the effort. We have pre 80's sport racing tonight so this should fit in quite nicely. The left body with interior below the dash cut away and front and rear clips glued to the body is 26gm.. The body on the right is slightly modified to lower it on the chassis a bit is 30gm. Edited April 20, 2018 by Wobble
Wobble
Well, 1st run tonight and it's quicker than I was expecting and 1st in 1st race and took out a Fly 512 Coda Lunga that is always at the pointy end. It might need a bit of ballast behind the guide as it is a wee bit tippy but can't wait to run it against some Camaros and Mustangs etc. I'm pleased as punch with it. Wobble
Because the Corvette turned out better than expected I decided to press ahead with the Cobra coupe and give it the same sort of treatment. The wheels on this thing are ridiculously oversize but I figured with low profile tyres it might give it a more contemporary appearance and the white might have to go as well.. munter
agree that this needs the treatment too...those wheels? what were they thinking/not thinking? GRUNZ
Looking really nice. Did you change also the gear or is it the stock one? Quote Cheers G "I am an expert at the top of my field when mowing the lawn".
Wobble
Both are pretty much all stock bits except I found a 4mm wider rear axle to put in the Cobra and it might get a Ninco Sparker motor. Better get my a into g and finish the Cobra as we've got American muscle on the agenda for tomorrow evening.
Wobble
And this is how it looks with low profile tyres and a wider rear axle that makes the rear track as wide as a Scaley Mustang, and a nice angle for a photo that hides the ridiculously huge arches. Wobble
Great looking Cobra Bram, Can you show a pic of the chassis please? Terry Here's a few. Fortunately the bod I got it off had already started on it and the rear body float works OK with the rear clip screwed on tight as the chassis is modded to float inside it. Hoping it's clearer than mud but if you have any other questions, fire away. In this photo you can just make out the bottom of the body post below the chassis.
