G25 Slot-it tyres - User reports

Hi all wood track racers in particular.

As many of you will be aware Slot-it N22 and N18 tyres have been superseded by the G25 although the old F22 is still available.

According to NZSlots/Mark Burgess (if I recall correctly) an essential ingredient for these tyres is no longer available hence the change.

Some of our local racers have had mixed success with the G25 so I am interested in other people's thoughts and experiences.  I am now using Thunderslot a lot except for Slot-it Group C which must be fitted with a Slot-it tyre.

Limited local experience has included bad balling at first but coming right after much use. They machine nicely. Most recent from our local tyre guru that they are no where as good as the old tyres. They wer also starting ti degrade after just one meeting.

Interested in what you think.

Regards Charles Le Breton (charlesx)

Hi Charles tyres are becoming a pain in the a------- not only slot it but NSR as well as regards the slotit G25 found similar to you they don't work properly until the surface is run of as they bobble up but then as they wear that trouble comes back , not as bad , i have to use lighter fuel to clean mine periodically to get them to operate .

I run on a plastic track here , now i have run them on wood the bobbling still happens especially using a 25k or over motor but you do get better performance at least for a little while, Thunderslot or the old NSR classics are my choice of tyre now, if you can get them

I just don’t think that when Slot.it were creating the G25, that wood track racing was at all in their horizon.

For those not aware, most major events, and thus by default most larger clubs racing in the main European markets is on plastic tracks. Formerly Ninco, but increasingly Policar and some ScaleAuto Pro-Track - except Germany where Carrera still has a strong following.
They don’t glue or true, and certainly don’t “treat”. At major events, tyres are handed out just before the race commences, and in the case of longer enduros which require tyre changes, you take your car to the race control desk, hand over your worn tyres and fit a new pair in front of the scrutineers, then walk back to the track.
I have just had a parallel discussion about these with Harry Wise and John Albright. John advised he uses Methylated spirits or water from memory, squirted on the surface to cool these while truing. If they overheat, all is lost.

And they ARE shore 25, that is a lot harder than we like.
As comparison

NSR Super-grip from memory are Shore 22, Ultra about 15.

And the Slot.it N series came in 22 and 18.
Sideways Higrip hard were 25, medium 22 and soft were 18.

Thunderslot seem nice, and are - in my estimation - between 20 and 22 shore. They seem easy to true.

Sideways Pro come in the same three shore values as did hi-grip, but are a bit of a pig to true - they need cooling as you go - or go dead slow, and use talcum powder as a slip agent.

I confess, I just use what came on the car for all the main brands except Slot.it - I kept about 80 packs of N22 between the three sizes, including a few N18 when I sold the shop - I did give Ironhorse 200 packs, they went in about 6 weeks.
I tend to still use mainly N22 on all my aftermarket builds like Pioneer, Scalextric, Proslot, Fly, SRC etc., unless I need a particular profile that I can get from the wide NSR range of profiles.

Thanks for this detailed report Mark. Think you have matter on the head. If you are in touch with Slot-it can you perhaps ask if a Shore 22 is planned. Possibly too small a market. Regards Charles Le Breton

How do slot.it G25 compare to Revoslot and BRM G25 tyres - we have found the Revoslot originals - Shore 30 and the G25 tyres to work well on our wood tracks with a bit of truing and treatment with NSR tyre oil.

For the bigger BRM cars I use either 22 shore or I got some G25 tyres from a chap in Sth Aus and they both work well same deal true up and treat with NSR oil. Though I have found any oil tends to work.
