ZeGas
I have, since a kid, been a massive fan of 4th gen Group 5 cars and racing 1977-1982. They were nuts and the freedom they had to create these beasts was phenomenal. The Wurth & Zakspeed cars, Porsche deciding lights weren't needed, beemers that were every kids dream matchbox car. As such I am wondering if there is any interest in a Group 5 Proxy, if so click link below to find out more. https://www.slotforum.com/threads/mad-man-motoring-triple-m-proxy-group-5-1-32-1-43.215799/ Quote Cheers Grant . charlesx
Hi ZeGas. I would probably have a go at a scratch built if I can source a body shell. Might depend on rules. Good to see some interest in proxies again. Oldman has certainly done his best to help revive. Regards Charles Le Breton (charlesx).
ZeGas
In my head Charles, I see scratch builds to start with a standard body shell and add mods to suit with styrene, card, lexan or 3D printed ... flares, wings, body armour etc. Should be right up Munters alley. charlesx
Thanks ZeGas. Not sure Munter is really into making resin bodies these days but that is for him to say. I would certainly look at if available. Some other ideas to think about - As an alternative to resin there may be some plastic body kits that can be bought. Another option would be the likes of Pattos type clear bodies. I would not see a 3D printed or kit set chassis as scratch built but probably 3D or brass front and rear axle mounts ok. Possibly also the likes of Slot-it or NSR motor mounts. Would prefer to see prototypical colour schemes as car decoration is a part of scratch building. A maximum weight would also be good to avoid flying bricks. Hope of some help. Maximum width probably also essential. Regards Charles Le Breton (charlesx)

ZeGas
There has been a bit of interest on SFI, so posting here too for those that don't go there. Thinking June 2025. ************************************************************************************ The intention of this proxy is to encourage imagination for designers, builders, modellers & tuners, it is not to say that RTR and kit builds are discouraged. The Grp5 class was so unique and open that it had to appeal to every kid’s imagination of the possibilities of development. (or am I “a one of a kind” like these beasts). As such please imagine & create to your own ability. Entry fee The worst part first … $30 USD (TBC) entry fee covers postage depending on tournament. Hey!? I’m covering the trophies and most of the postage and setup. Entries Max three entries per person in whatever class they like. Classes Individually raced in each 1:32 & 1:43 RTR 3D Print Scratch Built Overall Beast of the Beast, if you will. The Car Any car that meets the following criteria. They must have been able to meet the criteria of the FIA Group 2-4 classification from 1975 - 1982. I am assuming no one would want to enter a Group 1 car but be my guest if you want to. NB. It is up to the entrant to provide evidence. Between 1975 and 1989 there must have been a minimum of 1000 1:1 touring cars or 400 1:1 grand touring cars produced each year. Yes, I know that the Group 5 ended in ’82 but some cars were continued in production, and it is too hard to break down the construction numbers for individual years. I’ll be working on total production numbers / years of construction to give average, if they meet the above criteria then “sweet as bro’.” Otherwise convince me. They need not to have ever competed in a 4th Gen Group 5 competition, just need to meet the base criteria, so in effect a GAZ-24 Volga could qualify (I’m sure someone will prove me wrong …. or build one). GAZ-24 Volga was used as a taxi in CCCP Body The FIA requirements state a maximum body width of 2000mm (62.5mm 1:32 or 46.5mm 1:43), excluding mirrors, side exhaust, door handles, but because the likes of sideways/racer take a liberty on scale, the body size is limited to 65mm width for 1/32, for 1/43 the size is restricted to 50mm. To compensate for the oversized bodies the wheel track is restricted to the 1:1 requirement of 2000mm. Meaning that the track to the outer side of the wheels, front or rear, is restricted to 62.5mm 1:32 and 46.5mm 1:43. No car will be disqualified, but a penalty will be imposed for indiscretions. This will be a pro-rata calculation based on average times of the rest of the field for each race. Basic Requirements Cars must represent an actual car with mirrors or such as was on actual car. No Vac formed Tyres must be fully under the fenders. No tire may project beyond body work, as viewed from above No guide must be visible from above Driver must be visible and at least represented by a head, partial arms and steering wheel in part, make an effort, at least paint a helmet and overalls. Windows must be translucent, crap translucent ok so long as a driver is recognisable. Lights and tail lights must be represented but do not need to be illuminated. Tyres & Wheels Tyres to be rubber of urethane only, NO silicon or foam. The rear wheels cannot have a smaller diameter than the front wheels. Low friction coating of front wheels is permitted such as CA glue or nail polish. No treatment of rear tyres is permitted, any oozy **** will incur disqualification “NO EXCEPTIONS”. Rims must be from era and appropriate for car entered, scaled appropriately from 15” to 17” (1:32 12mm-13.5mm or 1:43 9mm-10mm). Chassis Open, whatever the feck you want to do. Only requirement is min 1.5mm clearance from track to underside of chassis at lowest point, obviously excluding the guide & braid. (before the questions are asked) Inline, angle or sidewinder is acceptable. Guide must be able to make Scalextric R1 turns. No guides greater than 7mm depth, 1.9mm width. No magnets Motor Home track(s) dudes - Recommend no greater than 21k but open. Max current draw of 2 amps. No capacitors or other electrical devices may be fitted to motor circuit Open can is OK. My home track is, Straight is total 4000mm, Corners are radii, Min 150mm hairpin, Max 600mm, Wibbly Wobblys are short sharp changes, nasty but fun. Prizes ‘cause … why not … everyone wants more than they need. Prizes will be trophies only. Who needs things they are never going to build, use, munt, on-sell etc Edited October 5 by ZeGas Quote Cheers Grant .
