SlotsNZ
payback time for the trans-tasman "biffo" I'm confused guys . . if you're doing an aussie style scenery for your track . . . don't you just paint the MDF all a sort of dirty beige and then spray paint a few spots black here and there . . tassie excepted; I know you guys have decent clumps o' "rain forest" down there. Tileguy
I would think Even a Modern Day Aussie track would have Landscaping Done here and there. You folks do have Landscaping centers that sell non native selections dont you? I know for example In Minnesota, we Probobly have more Colorado Blue Spruce than Colorado does since over the years its been such a popular landscaping tree..(maybe a slight exageration ).........In some area's its taken to growing wild!!:bday:

Tileguy
The tracks in NZ just have sheep on green base board for scenery! Phil Phil, you know, I like Lamb Chops as much as the next guy and even a good leg of lamb on occassion.....but I dont want no sheep on my racetrack if ya know what I mean Perhaps NZ Guys should consider building something like a Nurburging or a Watkins Glen.......Dare to be different I say!! Besides, have you seen some of the Nurburging Modeled slot tracks out there??? Some great looking and very race-able tracks!!! oldslot
Tileguy you are missing the point on the sheep and N.Z. blokes. We have a running joke about N Z men having sheep as girlfriends. if you get the point they are also know as sheepshaggers Aparantly they wear wellington boots a lot some say thats so they can drop the back legs of the sheep in them saves getting kicked.I don't really know if this is true.don't know if I really want to know. :alcohol:

Tileguy
OOOOOOOOOOOOO K :alcohol: Ive done a couple more tree experiments with more different material. Both use the same Bottlebrush technique. The one on the left was made with craft broom material and was dusted with a dark green sawdust then topped with a highlighting green ground foam. The second was made using Sedge Grass..........simple swamp grass. Granted, its probobly not a front line tree but as a filler tree within a forest...Sedge Grass is free......FREE is GOOD!!! And here are the 4 different experiments all marked (excuse the lighting ) This shows the different textures and appearances these varieties give. If I have time we will install our forest on the track Next week in this area.

Eno the Wonderdog
Australia's contribution to the horticultural world has been the export of Eucalyptus trees world wide. they are a fast growing and non deciduous tree and as you guy's in the states have found out ..... they burn quite well!! Gazza - 'cause they do so well in California they produce more oil than usual and damned well EXPLODE!! Man - and I thought only the Australians animals and fish and reptiles and insects were deadly.. Perhaps NZ Guys should consider building something like a Nurburging or a Watkins Glen.......Dare to be different I say!!Besides, have you seen some of the Nurburging Modeled slot tracks out there??? Tileguy - after the news that Heidfeld in the current BMW did some laps of the Nordschleife over the weekend I've spent the day looking at websites about the "Green Hell" man it's a cool place. I'd be interested in seeing soem of the sites you mention if you could post / send links to them. Oh - as regards the Glen if ever you were to want to make a scale accurate circuit at home that one's the business. On their site there's all the actual dimensions and altitude information in PDF's.. all I need is to convince the missus I need a bigger shed.. oh - and some nouse.. gazza
Found this on that other site by ProXDriver .......... Folks, As a fellow Minnesotan, I was asked back in June if I knew what was up with one of our most prolific posters, and one of our resident Master Scenic-builders, Tileguy (aka "Todd"). Todd lives in Northern Minnesota, near what we call "The Iron Range", and I'm about two-hours South in the Twin Cities so we've never crossed paths. I did have an email addy for him however, so I emailed him to ask how he was, and that his SF friends missed him. I received the following reply this morning, with the instructions to share whatever seemed appropriate....I'm posting it verbatim; I wouldn't do it justice by paraphrasing it. In short, our mate Todd is in really tough shape and I think based on the challenges he's facing, it's unlikely we'll see him coming back to SF anytime soon. PM me if you'd like contact information. I know he considered many of you some of his very close friends, and I'm sure he would appreciate your support. -- "Michael, am I OK....that's a very good question...Not really no......I am dealing with some very severe medical problems, the kind that turns your life upside down and unfortunately, those of your loved ones also..I have been unable to work for over a year now and have recently bankrupted my business of 25 years because of this and the fact that i will never be able to return to tile work in my lifetime....My online time is somewhat limited so choices of priority must be made..... At this point my mobility is very limited and much of my time is spent dealing with Doctors, specialists, therapists and psychiatrists (they seem to think I am depressed.....hmmmm, it's a possibility LOL ) Another of my major endeavors is dealing with the govt.....or dot gov people if you prefer....Social Security seems to have forgotten I've worked all my life and paid in quite a sum of money......This of course means they deny any disability claim regardless of whether your deaf dumb blind and had all your limbs hacked off......Enter The Lawyer........Yep, we must keep them fed so the .gov people ( who once were all lawyers themselves) have decided they are entitled to 1/3 of your disability for getting Your govt to approve access to YOUR OWN FUNDS!!! Smacks of Fascism if you ask me, but that's just one mans opinion who's in the red tape battlefield. Ive even stooped so low at this point to Steal internet via wireless laptop from my neighbor since i can no longer afford 50 bucks a month for something so frivolous as communicating with the outside world..;o) So there ya go, the answer to your question whether you wanted it or not...Feel free to copy paste anything you feel appropriate....I will of course deny ever typing anything libelous or slanderous toward any government entity no matter how Ignorant they are................ Sincerely The Tileguy...(ret) Quote Quickly read this post before it is deleted or i turn grey again Gary http://www.facebook.com/Rallyproxy2017

KarKraft
I wish Todd all the best. He is the main person who got me to work on scenery, making it achievable and offering step-by-step guidance with his well thought-out posts. For some reason us Aussies don't seem keen to share our hard-won lessons. Todd epitomises American DIY knowledge sharing and all-round helpfulness. If you're not sure what I mean, check his work on the American forum and then consider the efforts he has gone to, to share that work here as well. Todd, I hope you bounce back. You deserve at least the chance to resume your life and your hobby. Brett Quote Fairmont Park
knoath
All I can add is... what KK said. It was Todd who answered a lot of my questions about scenery and his approach to it... he was always there to offer assistance and advice... always invaluable. I'm off to shoot him a PM to wish him well. Quote Cheers, Dick SCMR build thread Woodbrook Valley build thread "A Man's home is his castle, but his garage is his sanctuary!"
