Hi Mark, it looks like I am going to make it for Thursday :)

Excellent - I actually rebuilt my SCX Cuda muscle car today with a 3D chassis. After much fettling, it is now only 1/10th slower than with the original inline factory setup…… sigh

Our guest is due to rock up shortly after 5, to get some solo track time before “the great unwashed” invade :D

Hey Mark. My mate Ryan from Wellington is in town. Ok if he joins in tonight. He can race my cars so just slit us up.

Cheers (Martys Ready)

Hawkes Bay club last night. Great to have Howard visiting from Tauranga and Ryan from Wellington. Another annoying software crash 10 heats into Legends so no results table - but Mac had it in the bag before he had to leave.

A couple of things I had a quick chat with Mac about last night before we entered the mortal combat

Firstly, the inclusion of the NSR Spanish King 19k in the GT3 class, is an aberration, as it is 20-30% more powerful than most other motors in that class, so we should only have the Baby King/Baby Raptor 17k with lower torque levels in that class. I’ll make an alteration in the class rules post.

The other was that there seemed to be a general or majority acceptance of replacing the old Scaley F1 class, with the NSR F1 cars. Will post those class rules below as per his suggestion, - knowing the cars.
So to move things forward after a long time discussing this as a future class - The next question is WHEN?
I suggest we run the old Scaleys one more rotation, to give those of us yet to acquire or setup an NSR, ample time to sort something. And as a goodbye to the turds that have served us well - for 10+ years?

Noting that NSR now have the original Formula 86/89 range, and the new Formula 22 cars with similar setup, and ScaleAuto have their F1 range with very similar mechanical setup, it seems pragmatic as per earlier conversation on forum and at club, that we allow any of these to run as “ Podded F1” class (for want of a better name anyone?)

So does that sit okay with everyone? Any objections, suggestions, questions?

One advantage of feeling unwell last night was a day off work today. That gave me time to completely rework 4 x classic Scalextric Jags for a 2hr Thursday race at my place at some stage.
Shoutout to Pat for his excellent new design guides - and to Bingo for the best inserts in the game. These old cars go pretty damn good now. Watch this space for a race date.

Gents just some general comments about marshalling that I believe needs to be mentioned. Being a regular deslotter myself & a marshal of average performance.

1. In my own case I have realized [my old brain is a bit slow] that poor marshalling can only be poor marshalling if I don't come off. In short don't get grumpy with the marshal if you were the one that came off. Root cause of your not making the top numbers is your problem not the marshals.

2. If you are taken out by the lad beside you or as a result of his misdemeanor remember this. At the time your eyes are on your car, you know exactly who caused the upset & who should be put on first. The marshal is either talking & not paying attention, focusing on multiple cars\corner in his care & doesn't have the benefit, as the driver does, of focused vision. He reads it as he see's it & reslots cars with the best intentions. None of us deliberately reslot the wrong car.

3. The evening is about racing good cars, banter, hanging with some good guys & some downright good fun. Winning is great or getting amongst the top dogs but it shouldn't be the sole purpose of the evening, in my view. In recent times I feel like we are losing sight of this & to be honest getting pretty "testy" about it.

4. Having a yarn whilst marshalling is good, we don't need to become so serious we stop talking to each other but we need to be mindful that trackside is also about marshalling & providing other racers with a reasonable level of service. Drivers shouldn't be having to interupt a social moment in order to get their car reslotted.

5. Coming off is a part of racing [in the real world too], more so for some of us than others. Getting caught up in someone else's mishap is also part of racing [in the real world too].

6. The most important one DONT ABUSE ME FOR RAISING THIS. My voice is not alone & the forum is not a place for hanging out our dirty washing.......this is simply a reminder about some marshalling basics.

LET THERE BE PEACE BROTHERS

Very well written bingo. All valid points.

Everyone has their moments, but as a wise man once said

"Let it not be forgotten, we are just a bunch of nerds racing toy cars in sheds"

Or something like that anyway

I Myself will be a bit sad to see scalextric f1 dissappear, as i really enjoy that class, but do look forward to some fast and furious nsr f1 action

see y'all thursday
