Hi Mark/SlotsNZ.

A couple of years ago you advised a tip for painting slot when building track. Can you recall what it was please. Thought you might have used some kind of sponge or foam that pushed paint ahead of it. Trust you and your good lady are well but recall MS I think it was. Regards Charles Le Breton

Hi Charles,

the trick was fairly simply implemented, and best done before braiding, but I have also carefully redone my own track slots later to brighten up the colours - it just requires more care to avoid getting paint on the braid.

I would put an acrylic paint in small bottles with nozzles, held in one hand, which could squirt a controlled amount into the slot.
In the other hand, I would have a thin, loose fitting, flexible piece of plywood or sturdy cardboard about 8cm square, which I would slide along the slot to push the paint onto the sides, and move back and forwards a few times as needed, to eliminate any “blobbing”

You need minimal gap between board and sides of the slot, but once you master the amount of paint you squirt, and the motion of the board, you can apply a decent amount of paint and move quite quickly around the track.

once you’ve done a lane, just walk around while the paint is still moist, and give another shuffle back and forwards with that board, anywhere you see more than smooth colour on sides and bottom of the slot.
Any overspill goes onto the rebates, and that is fine, just brush it flat, and it disappears under the braid, but colours the gap between the edge of the slot, and where the braid begins, typically set back about 1mm from the edge of the slot.

Thanks Mark/SlotsNZ.

Adding a small extension to track and vaguely remembered your comment. Sounds easy enough. Also decided to paint colour strip rather than use pin stripping tape. Will post photo of end result when completed. Track is taped with copper so no seepage problems if I decide to re-colour existing track.

Enjoy reading your race results and photos. Say gidday to all the guys from Taranaki. Regards Charles Le Breton

Many thanks Peter, nice to be back at Bahia Vista. Great to meet new members, a pleasure to catch up with with others I remember from old. Sorry I missed the other regulars. Really enjoyed the night out. As far as my racing goes not alot has changed....I make everyone's night better.

Great to have the Rodsun back in the house, and muy excelente night of laughter in the cave.
Gutted - it’s been so long since I used the GoPro, I forgot that my default record mode has an fps that creates flickering under Pedro’s Fluoro lights.
Sorry, Burger Bros movie production is gone with the wind this week.

I’ll have another play with fresh eyes tomorrow, see if I can rescue something
