Springbok Racer
Hi guys, As provided for at the end of 2013 when we agreed the current regulations for 2014, we now have a chance to make certain amendments and clarifications to our rules. These amendments and clarifications will be incorporated into the 2014 regulations as at the end of March. Thereafter the regulations will again be locked until we get another chance as provided for, at the end of June. This is what we had agreed - quoted from the regulations: THESE REGULATIONS ARE NOW LOCKED FOR 2014. THE ONLY CHANGES FROM NOW ON WILL BE WHEN NEWLY RELEASED CARS HAVE BEEN PARITY TESTED FOR INCLUSION IN THESE REGULATIONS OR WHEN ANY SPECIFIC PART IS REPLACED BY SCALE AUTO WITHOUT NOTICE. THESE AMMENDMENTS (if required) WILL ONLY TAKE PLACE AT THE END OF MARCH, JUNE AND SEPTEMBER 2014. THESE TYPES OF CHANGES WILL ALWAYS BE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF CARS AND PARTS TO EVERYONE RACING IN AUSTRALIA - AVAILABILITY ON THE WWW WILL BE CONSIDERED ACCEPTABLE. So then, here is one such an amendments and clarification that I would like to suggest: - Minimum body weight be expressed as 55.0grams and minimum total weight as 190.0gram. The reason for this is so that we don't end up having the problem we had at Hornsby where a scale was provided which did not display any part of a gram. This meant that a car of 189,6gram was weighed and showed 190gram due to the scale rounding up to 190gram. In future event organisers will have to provide a scale which can weigh part of a gram and display it as such. Please let us have your comments, specific to this topic. Once we've updated the regulations at the end of March, this topic will be locked. Cheers, Jan Edited March 23, 2014 by Springbok Racer 'The older I get the faster I was.' Camber
I would be surprised if an entrants Chinese made el cheapo scales that read to 1/10ths of grams will read the same as the Chinese made el cheap scales used in scruitineering. Who does the calibrations? Are the scales accurately levelled before tare and weighing? I have checked my $9 scales (0.1g) against my workplace, University of Wollongong scales which read to 4 decimal places. They were surprisingly good, but not linear and were out by about 0.4 gram up around full scale at 190g, (not levelled). An allowance needs to be made for inaccuracies of measurement, I would say 189.5g on scruitineering scales as a pass is a fair call. A man who reads two clocks, never knows the exact time! axman
I think the rules are fine the way they are.. It's simply not a problem. Lets get real.. If (that's IF) a 190 gram brick of a car is 0.4 g out because the average racer can't check it without a visit to the university of Wollongong its far beyond what the average racer should have to worry about. paulthetexan
2 ways of looking at it. 1 - rules are rules not guide lines 2 - your only talking 0.0021% The difference between a 6.0s lap and a 5.98s lap is 0.00333% Myself , rules are rules. I would protest an under weight car every time.
Tim Tyler
What Cam, Jason and Kim said. So long as the playing field is level, we won't run into problems. 13 times world wanking champion. Not proud of it.
sticks
I think that we will also have to take into consideration variations in gravity and apparent gravity As gravity can vary between 9.8337m/s/s to 9.7639 m/s/s and this is about a whole 0.70 of a percent, this could mean a whole 1.33g difference ! and Kim your unedited post this morning was the best and funniest post I have read on the forum in a long time. thanks Kim Rodney
Garry J
So if we want to eliminate gravitational variations we should be specifying 'mass', not 'weight', as weight implies the presence of a gravitational field. Therefore we need a balance, not a scale, and objects of the correct mass to balance against. This will be accurate regardless of variations in gravity. sticks
Yes Garry, like always, you are correct! So we need to have two Standards(weights) one 55 grams and one 190 grams and a balance. These standards would have to made from a material that would not deteriorate, rust or corrode over time. My guess would be ummmm Platinum the price of Platinum is $1428.00 per Troy Oz 55 gram standard $2,52512 190 gram standard $8,723.14 Balance good set $3,500.00 So that would be $14,748.16 WHOOPS That's USD So that would be 14,748.16 times the exchange rate 1.0963 $16,168.41 I'm sure Jan good for it! BigMick
These kind of threads is why I find it hard to justify spending the money to get into scalauto racing. Are you guys really serious or do you just like giving each other a hard time.? axman
Ohhh... you mean like this paul... Hey Big Mick, don' t take this to seriously.. you could'nt find a better bunch of blokes racing Scaleauto... and yes, we're taking the piss out of each other. We just don't have scrutineering problems... Well thats since Troy Boldy has'nt been racing .... see, cant help myself! Seriously though, all the guys on this thread have a great time when we meet up and although a Scaleauto Chassis has all the finesse of a rusty gate hinge (though chromed now) the cars look great and is probably the closest scale racing you can have. Garry J
I'm sure everyone here is aware of the great aussie tradition of "taking the p!ss". Don't take it too seriously. Garry J
Mick, Jan takes his responsibility as Scalauto rule keeper very seriously, which is good for the rest of us because no one else wants the job. Some of us are just trying to bring balance back to universe by not being serious. In the end there will be a scale, measuring to 1/10th of a gram, provided by someone at each race, as the keeper of the rules has decreed. And we'll all be happy. BigMick
great to hear, taking the piss is an Aussie tradition its cultural. I have been following the scaleauto and MCN posts for a while now it dose seem to get out of control at times. As long as its fun thats great my mistake, I am happy with that. I am a most competitive bugger coming from a Pro Sport background and have turned to slots as I got older (and that was just recently ) a work place injury has taken golf away from me alas I will never swing a club again so slots is my new outlet. I have a way to go but I competed with my golf on a national level and have similar ambitions with slot cars. Scaleauto seems to be the big national formula so hope to get that good soon. Keep taking the Piss Big Mick

Springbok Racer
Hi all, Thank you for your continued input regarding our national regulations in this class. First let me say, the point regarding the use of multiple scales are taken and the amendment to the notes in our rules will reflect that. Suffice to say; event organizers will be asked to provide all scrutineering tools (including a suitable scale) at the start of official practice, for everyone wanting to check their cars before scrutineering. Next, the long anticipated arrival of the Viper is now imminent and we will parity test it as soon as possible. However, it will have to wait to be included at our next rule amendment discussion to be held at the end of June. Therefore it will not be eligible for use at national competitions until then. But please, feel free to run it at your local club events so we can get a good feel for it before considering it's inclusion into the national regulations. This topic will now be locked.
