ZeGas
I have just taken purchase of the above and I am totally lost with connecting up to SSD APB. I have hornby adapter for controller which has pin on one end and a telephone connection on the other, There is nowhere I can see to connect this to the controller. The other hornby adapter has two connectors on one end and another on the other end which doesn't appear to be anything like anything on the APB. I understand that the controller needs to be connected to a power supply but cannot fathom how to connect to both power supply and the control port in the APB. I have googled but cannot find any info even on the slot.it website. Is there a diagram available. Do I need yet another adapter or another power supply. If that's the case will I need 6 power supplies if I have six controllers, I doubt that is the case. It must be simple surely I am having an old man's disease day. Will keep on searching though. ZeGas
Hang on I think I have scene something the "telephone plug" which I have found out is an RJ45 connector is inside the body, right that answers that bit. I'll amd still a little flumixed with the power side though if I have 6 of these controller do I connect them in parallel. So the first controller power supply goes to APB power supply, but others will go to next controller and then last will go to power supply,. That seems to be a bit restrictive but I think I got it. shadow_rusty
Another other option to daisy chaining the power to the power pack and then the powerbase is to connect the power cable directly to your 12v battery... Also, you can use 2x 3.6v Lithium Ion batteries on each controller to be 'almost' wireless... Slot.it also do a 9v battery box for the oxygen boys, but it will also work with the digital module. http://www.armchairracer.com.au/track-systems/oxigen-digital/slot-it-oxigen-digital-o205a-battery-holder-radio-cartridge I'll try to find the article, but you can also connect the battery to the 'usb' port on the controller, and remove the red cable completely... ZeGas
Got another question on this one. I HAVE NO BRAKES amongst other things. No matter where I put the dial there is no difference in brakes at all I notice in the manual that they appear to have the plug incorrect for the digital system. They say APB has a 5.5/2.1 round male jack but the C7042 I have is definitely a 6.5/3.0 jack same as the 4 car PB. Does this mean that the dip switch is different I guess no and haven't played around with it. The setting I have for the dip switch is DDDUDUDU is this right for the APB, manual says yes. I have turned the brakes off on the APB for that car, and also tried with them on, it appears the APB is controlling everything still not the controller. Any other ideas why the brakes aren't working. I don't think the curve max is working either, not too fussed about that one at the moment, and I don't see much difference in the power trim. Both appear to be the same no matter what I set them too. Edited I think the power trim is my ignorant eye, I see a difference in the start, a slight lag in power on in full or instant power in low. Still not sure what I should see in the curve max though. I have tried a gradual on of the trigger to see what happens but do not see much. Probably slow eyes. shadow_rusty
The brakes need to be on on the powerbase. Preferably on the "both" option for the brakes to work correctly with the slot.it. ZeGas
Hi Michael, I tried that and the brakes, no matter what the setting are 100% stop, there is no difference at all if I change settings. shadow_rusty
Hmmm, not too sure then... May need to contact Mr Slot.it then... Unfortunately I don't have the digital module to test here. I do know that you need brakes turned on on the powerbase, but I was under the impression that the brake knob should work, at least on the 'delay' side. Just out of curiosity, have you tried the button only setting on the power base? PS. Both the APB and the 4-car power base have 2.5mm controller plugs, and 6.5mm/3.0mm power plugs, so that is definitely a typo. shadow_rusty
Just confirmed that brakes should be adjustable... Page 17 of the SCP2 manual. BK for digital systems: Hornby SSD: braking can in fact be adjusted with the BK knob as you would on an analog system. Only, the possible settings are 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%. PS. Have you tried re-calibrating the controller on the powerbase? ZeGas
Yep and that's what I expected to experience. Nothing happening with the Curve/Max dial either. I'll email Slot.it & see what the story is, not sure if you can update the firmware or not. shadow_rusty
The Curve / Max know will only work under if either a. You are on curve mode on the rear switch b. You are on linear mode on the rear switch and you enabled the limit mode You will definitely need to have brakes enabled on the powerbase, but I'm not too sure how the controller limits the brakes. It may, be switching on and off the brake button, or switching between 0 and ~200ohms on the throttle. The first one will require brakes set to button / both on the powerbase. The second one will require brakes set to dynamic / both on the powerbase. Have you tried using the scp2 on your pb4 to see if the brakes are adjustable there? shadow_rusty
This may help... http://slotcarillust...809&postcount=3 Ok, so, the slot.it brakes are 100% dynamic. If you disable dynamic brakes, then the adjustable brakes will have no effect. They work by pulsing the throttle value between true 0 and slightly on (1 or 2, I guess). If there is no braking at 0 (dynamic brakes off), then there is no effect. In order for the adjustable brakes to work, dynamic brakes must be enabled. A while ago, I also felt that brakes should be controlled by the brake button rather than dynamic. I realize now that other brake button functions, such as to initiate track calls, would preclude the use of the brake button to manage the pulsed brakes. On the SCP1 v1.0, the entire brake dial is used. It is "divided" into 5 sections, with fully clockwise (10 in the "fixed" section) as full brakes, and the full counter-clockwise ("infinite" in the "sweep" section) as no brakes, and three steps in between with different pulsing speeds. Usually, you can hear the pulsing speed change as you move the dial, depending on the car you're controlling. Some cars, if you lift the rear, will spin the wheels with every pulse of power. Be sure to calibrate the controller, though. Set brakes to full, and calibrate it, then you can adjust the brakes. I found that trying to calibrate while brakes are not set to full makes for poor calibration and also poor brake adjustment. So, set the brakes to full on the controller, set the powerbase brakes to dynamic / both (preferable or the button may not work), and then re calibrate the controller. Once done, retest the adjustable brakes. ZeGas
Nup, I note that the brake dial is stiff, not as free as the others, I have emailed Slot.it so will wait and see what comes back from them. I wonder if JohnsXR8 track is still going, once I hear back from Slot.it I might PM him and see if he's OK for me to come around. The PB4 is in storage at the moment so is a bit hard to test on, I'll see if I can find some time to try and set that up, It will be a good test to see if it I can run it off the battery I told you about as well. No big deal I prefer no brakes to 100% but I have a hairpin that say 50%-80% brakes would be better. ZeGas
Well, its taken three weeks and a lot of persuading that I am not mad or an idiot, but my new slot.it controller arrived today. I gave it a quick test, brakes only and it is great, works as expected. I'll test the rest in the coming days. Anyway all's well that ends well, onwards and upwards. Thanks to all for helping out. John would still like to come up one weekend for a perv and to steal some tips, do you have organised racing at all, not that I'll race but would love to watch and learn. ZeGas
No one was willing to say, the deal with the retailer was they send a whole new controller if it works good, if not I send it back and get my old one sent back. It appeared no one wanted to take responsibility, and the retailer even tried to convince me it was the powerbase (possible but unlikely as the powerbase worked fine with various other controllers) or even the power supply (????? WTF). I'm not an expert on electronics but I'm not an idiot either. Come on people sometimes things don't work, accept it and move on. I have & I'm happy I have a great controller.
