Is anybody making anything anymore?

Yeah sort of. While not a full scratch build I am finishing off a Pete Geoghegan Mustang which I will post up soon. Have a few other cars on the go too so once ready I will post them. I have started getting back into it more and buying up Patto’s decals for all sorts of old Aussie cars. I’ve also purchased an air brush for the first time as well as a spray booth so I am planning on getting a bit more serious.

I have a number of your resin bodies still waiting for me to get to them with plans for a McCormack Charger, having just bought the decals from Patto a couple of days ago.

I don’t really like to post up until I am finished now as I have threads in here from started cars that don’t end up getting finished.

I am also working towards slowing down at work possibly in a year so once this happens I will be putting more time into the hobby because this is what I have always wanted to be able to do with the rest of my life however long it is.

Well apart from Vinno I guess not much has been going on in this sphere of the hobby on Auslot.

I think they have migrated to Facebook groups... of which there are several good ones catering for that realm.

As a parting comment here is a picture of something built by Australian enthusiasts.

Hi Munter and VINNO.

I am just starting to get back into proxies after covid. Did a couple of Touring Car Proxies during covid but now into second Bathurst 1000 event at Mandurah WA. Have just sent a car to USA for LeMans Proxy. First time in USA since 2016.

These were all fairly standards cars or rebuilds of Scaly cars so perhaps some new builds could be coming. I still have my Tasman Cup 4WD Fergusson partly completed but the pressure went off when this got postponed again. Perhaps 2024.

FB might be great for reaching people but totally useless for newbies trying to learn anything from the past.  You can find really useful and enlightening posts on a forum years, even decades in the future, it'll still be there as long as the forum lives.  With FB you're forever answering the same questions all the time because:

  • there's no organised sections or history
  • typical FB hobby newbies don't seem to know there's a thing called google that you can type questions in and you'll get pages of appropriate links to find your answers

...on FB you can click 'go back' once and never find the post you were reading, for me I created a couple of FB pages to keep links and photos and post club race reports as most of our club members aren't on any of the forums

That last point is probably important 'most of our club members aren't on any of the forums' I presume that's probably common throughout most hobbies with years of forum data to trawl through.  If FB was more organised like a forum I think it would help many hobbies tremendously, I thought this back in 2014 when I closed an RC Drift forum I was running for 10 years...if only FB could be set up like this

Life is like a box of Slot cars...B)

Facebook will probably do it when they try and charge. Then forums will take off again. Wishful thinking maybe.

Many of the old hands never reapeared after Covid a lot of them were builds and it seems proxy entrants , must admit i am finding it difficult to find something new which excites me to build but watch this space, have a Lotus 19 and one of Georges 1/24 Imps in the drawer and waiting for his 1/24 Anglia so all may not be dead just resting

Which lotus 19 bodyshell do you have ?????,...........this is an old Strombecker, with some  body modifications, built to resemble Moss's 19 that he drove in the Players 200 at Mosport in 1961.

The chassis was also built to represent what was running around the club slot tracks in the early 60s'

Very nice Chris in fact beautiful love the UDT colour , i have the George Turner one actually have 2 of them both waiting for me to get my finger out , not keen on the anglewinder chassis that comes with them  , was trying to get a inline FF chassis for them as there is not a lot of room in the back and i think the size of the model will suit the ff motor the Predator 18k

I have plenty of builds to start/complete.

Since racing ended at WASCRG last year I've been mucking around with my home Scaley sports, 4 lane digital track.

Finally have everything set up so I'd say it's finally time to get back on with some of my builds.

When the bug bites I usually get stuck right into it.

Building but not posting on here - mainly because I can take a photo with my phone and drop it straight into Fb group but on here its not as simple.

Laziness on my part I know :(

Don't know anything about fb but have you tried since the update, you can just copy and past pics from anywhere without using postimage photobucket etc

Back on topic between work and setting up cars for racing on Saturday nights my scratch building has taken a back seat but has not been forgotten.

Ok I wasn't aware of that - this is a 3D printed 1/24 scale D50 :)

Some more projects all except the 4CL (#4 last pic) are 3D printed. IS there a limit to how many files we can upload? Should I reduce the size of them?

Each member has been allocated 48MB, so definitely reduce the size of camera pics to make best use of the online storage you have been given.

I use a free App to reduce pics to 800x600 at medium quality, so pics end up 80k - 110k size.

It is certainly much easier than before but note only limited file types supported - gif, jpeg, jpe, jpg, png, webp. Regards Charles Le Breton (charlesx)

Which covers pretty much every major image format.

Not much to follow here.

When did I last see someone share a build on here? A real scratchbuild not some white kit paint job? Ummm dunno.

I believe that this is a typical trend of several slotcar forums where many have moved to niche groups on Facebook and let the general slotcar stuff be....to do whatever it does.

Timely comments John!

I suppose we are all a little guilty, my builds of late have slowed down, probably in keeping with me slowing down at the same mediocre pathetic slumber, however, i do have builds in the system, (see my posting today regarding my chassis jig)

I do have some superb 1/32 resin bodies of yours John which have been sitting on the shelf for way too long, the Maclaren F1 car awaits.....
