schuey19
John, if you're talking about how the lanes rejoin prior to the table join, its so all joins are straight, not angled or on bends. Secondly, its so a car can come in, pit and re enter before the start/finish line. Thanks for the feedback. Yngwie
Sorry Mick, I meant the other side which should have read exit out of the pits.
schuey19
If you stand at the drivers station, the car travel is left to right. So, as you come off the bridge and go threough the new right and left, you enter the pits, and exit and rejoin the circuit just before the start finish line. The pit entry is before the last corner because that is what most circuits are like. Just keepin' it real! schuey19
Another update. I think I have finally fixed my pit problem. All lanes are painted, first coat of chalkboard is down, and the rest of the circuit is masked ready for a recoat. Purchased some copper tape today, so might get started on that tomorrow night after painting. I do have a new problem with the pits though. Where the pit bays are, directly underneath is where the table cross beam runs, which means that I can't drill through tp feed wires to tap the small sections that intersect each other. I have a plan for it though, so I'll see how it goes and report on its sucess/failure. Enjoy the pics! schuey19
Gave the new section its final coat today, and the rest of the track a recoat. Next up will be taping and wiring, then the pitlane changers. As can be seen in the pic, I've made the first two bays turn out before they turn in. I thought of running the red lane wide from further up, but wanted to simulate the tight confines of a pitlane. teamredracing
Good work Mick .It's all coming together nicely. Just think ,get your first fun on it and you can then sell it and build another track .I believe thats the way it goes :( . schuey19
This is what I got done last night. I have almost finished taping the rest of the extension. Red lane is done and half of both white and yellow lanes. schuey19
An update. Haven't done much the last three weeks until the weekend just gone. The new table is all wired up underneath, including the lane changers, which have been completed and installed. The switches are in place, and the last thing to do is to re wire the driver's panels to incorporate the changer switches. Thanks to Shane Lott for the tips about the changers too. schuey19
Thanks John. After I got the first one sorted, they weren't too bad. I used double sided tape to position them, then when I had test with a small test circuit, I hot glued in place. schuey19
Its all up and running now. The only issue I have are two points where the lanes intersect where they turn in to the bays. Some front pivoting guides have a tendancy to still try and change lane at the intersect and come to an abrupt stop. Not a problem with the Scaley disc guides as they pivot in the middle. I think the problem wouldn't have occured if the slot was 3mm as opposed to 4, and if the turn in intersected the lane more perpendicular. I have an idea to fix it so I'm not too concerned. Next is to sort out Ultimate Racer 3.0 to have 6 iniputs as oppsed to 5 to enable refuelling. Then the scenery. Here is a 1 min video of me driving the centre lane. Its on 5v as my 3yo was playing, but he wanted to be the pit operator! Count
Looks great Michael! The extra section really transforms that track, well done! What did you make the flippers out of? Shane Lott
Hey, well done Schuey! Nice to see someone else with working pits! If you need any further assistance by way of set up with UR30, just let me know. Just wait till you get it running with the software, gives whole new perspective to racing with "toy" cars!!!!! Ontheflipside
Fabulous Schuey, Extensions look to be working really well. Liked the old one so no doubt this is a bit more icing on the cake. I was unsure how the pits would work but seems you have the goods. Looking forward to giving a few cars a squirt some day. Dave, Pete and Mel, I would like to do something when I fix up the timing and above mentioned guide issue. Pete, the lane flippers are 4mm perspex, I have ample left if you want some. Shane, my issue with UR3.0 is it only has 5 inputs on the LPT ports, and my PC only has one port. I have wired up a serial port as COM1 to run the refuel sensors to no avail. Yngwie was over on Friday night and it had both of us baffled as to why it wouldn't recognise it. I'm thinking of going back to an older PC I have, and try that. Actually wouldn't be a bad idea as this one I noticed today still occassionally misses the white lane. As well as that, you will be half way around the lap then it would tick over. Not a software issue as this issue first occured during a meet a couple of months ago before I reworked the track, and I re installed the software the next day and the problem was still there. Anyway, the young bloke and I spent some time out there today together (he was three today) and he'd do about three laps, then go 'I need petrol dad'. He operates the pits, pulls up on his spot, goes 'glug glug glug glug ding' and drives off again! Now I need him to master slowing for corners so I can start to increase the power and not be on 5v holding it flat all lap! Not a software issue as this issue first occured during a meet a couple of months ago before I reworked the track, and I re installed the software the next day and the problem was still there. Michael, I installed darlington photoresistors and infrared LEDs just recently, which worked perfectly for the first half hour, then started displaying the symptoms you describe above. Much head scratching ensued, until I noticed a burning smell! (No, not my hair). It turned out the p/s I was using for the LEDs was cooking, and as it failed it was obviously 'pulsing', causing the LEDs to come & go, and therefore trigger laps. Maybe your problem is a light or power supply issue? ...and yes, I'll take you up on that perspex, thanks a lot! schuey19
I've slowly been getting the scenery finished on the track now that I have some wonderful foam strips (thanks teamredracing) One part will take no time at all as I kept a large piece of plastered grass from when I did the rebuild, so I can just reattach it where it came from with some minor trimming, and then just fill in the gaps. Have put in place some aluminium fly screen that now needs to plastered. The foam here is just temporarily glued. Still needs to be painted. Barriers here are also temp pinned, need to be trimmed and painted. Also 'tear drop' in middle will have plaster for texture and grass, with grass to the left of image also. Advertising signage will go around the edge too. Then the pit fuel sensors. The sensors have been moved from next to into the slot. These 'air booms' will have the IR LED facing down and have signage across them to cover the LED. Still having issues with UR3 and LPT2, it just won't see the new port. I think it may be more of a PC issue as it continually pops up with found new hardware wizard even though it has been installed with the the correct driver. schuey19
Just finished the air booms which will have the refuel sensor light source (IR LED). They have a 3mm jack at the bottom and the socket will be hidden in the edging. This is so they will not get damaged when not in use or a cover goes on the track, I can just pull them out. Just have to add some colour and signage to cover the LEDs.
