Cleveland
DM The best one I can remember was the first Bob jane camaro c2413 .They where still in the shops here for $55 and selling on ebay in the US for $100us which equaled $200 au at the time. No guessing they didnt last long on the shelves here. There's even one on ebay at moment, check slotcar57 (sorry couldn't help myself :huh2: ) Quote Resized to 83% (was 1006 x 146) - Click image to enlarge

I am chasing the #1 - bit scarce - I would love to get a #8 yellow one but they are too rare and cost too many $$ could probably buy 2 cars for the same money. can't wait for the #7 to be released later this year - the #7 Fly car looks pretty sweet so I am looking forwarded to adding a scaley one to my collection DM

I got the two LE German cars, the yellow and cream coloured. We ride motorcycles. ALL of the leather gear we have bought recently has come from USA. I bought a pair of boots from Perth for $300AUD, saw exactly the same pair in USA for $109US. I saw a jacket here for $500, I have one coming for $200. I don't see how the price hike is justified. Same with clothing. We are both kinda goth, and we bring the clothes over from USA. Local stores charge almost 2x what we get them from overseas.

SlotsNZ
Must say I haven't done much on EBay lately and didn't know about this private bidding change. Private bidding worries me. I have in the past seen patterns where the same people always bid on certain same other persons auctions . . . and as I learned from a bit of researching - on each others. ie they were "bidding up" auctions for each other with no intention of winning. Private bidding HAS a place, but only on very special items, really valuable collector material; sort of what would otherwise perhaps end up at Sotherby's if the circumstances and ability to "reach" the collectors was different. But for garden-mill auctions . . . it's nuts IMO. Add to this, that from May you won't be able to place feedback on people who shaft you . . .well, I'll be gone from EBAY for good. - and I HAVE used it a fair bit, and appreciated it's place, but they're steadily turning it into a wild west, between failing to deal with fraudsters, "blind" auctions now, then finally removing feedback posting in May. . . . . I have to wonder . . . . . . why . . . . . why mess up such a successful formula, that seems to now encourage bad sellers, remove protections, and discourage good people on both sides of the auction . . . . it's surely not just to protect them over the management cost and bad PR of dealing with bad deals . . . . they must surely realise their auction numbers and commisions will take a hit . . . are they so arrogant as to think they can ride it out, and the business will come home to momma in time . . . . that doesn't make sense either. Any fella who has done marketing 101 [ and passed] can tell you that. . . I just CANNOT figure out what is happening at the CEOs desk . . . . dangermouse
Funny - I have wondered about people pushing the bids up as I see the same people bidding for cars all the time, if you have evidence you should report it to eBay so that they won't do anything about it. I thought keeping bidder ID private was an option open to all sellers but was automatic for items over a certain amount. My brother and I had a discussion about the ethics of looking at the bidders list during and after an auction and sending them a message saying you had a similar item for sale. (eBay does it themselves on the bidding ended screen) I actually picked up a car I was chasing this way after the auction closed and I didn't win. It is an interesting concept allowing you a 'look' at your buying competition - we were discussing whether that was right or not - ie you can check what they have bid on other cars etc when we found someone who likes slot cars and fancy lingerie - so buyer beware DM
eagleby flyer
There is another couple of Bob Jane Camaro's going for the bargain price of $300 if you buy it now. Apparently these cars are impossible to get now and are very rare. Unless you look at ebay and see them pop up at least once or twice a month ! dangermouse
Ok here is a case in point - why some sellers must love eBay.... and I have nothing against the seller of either cars - just pointing out some of the anomalies you see when searching for slot cars on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SCALEXTRIC-C2940-FOR...1QQcmdZViewItem  when the same car can be bought here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Scalextric-Slot-Car-...1713.m153.l1262 BIN no need to sweat on the auction just pay 6 quid less and the car is yours... ok here is an addition - apparently the lower the # on the car the more it is worth - how does that work? I am not a collector - I feel that slot cars have a motor therefore they are meant to be driven....if you want to look at them buy diecast....however I am sure that there are others who collect and know more about that side of the hobby than I do. But I can't fathom why in a new release car - that is still available to buy #3 is worth more than double say #856 oh well  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Scalextric-Limited-E...1713.m153.l1262 cheers DM ps if any one wants one of these cars - your best bet would probably be to go to the Slotcity website as they will sell it to you ex VAT (if they have any left) which is even cheaper and their postage is pretty fair as well. Any fella who has done marketing 101 [ and passed] can tell you that. . . I just CANNOT figure out what is happening at the CEOs desk . . . . Just to correct this, the changes that Ebay is introducing to the feedback system don't seem to be that bad actually. From May, SELLERS will not be able to leave negative Feedback for BUYERS. I think this is because some bad sellers leave bad feedback for buyers just to get back at them when they recieve bad feedback. Buyers will still be able to leave bad feedback but you will have to do it after 3 days and before 60 days. (Used to be after 1 day up to 90 days). There are a few other small changes also that will help feedback numbers grow bigger more easily if you have repeat customers, which I think is good. itelectrical
Well, I will now take back my previous support of the changes Ebay is doing. They are going to introduce some more changes in May and June which are absolutely rubbish and designed purely to make themselves more money. You will no longer be able to pay for items with bank deposit or money orders, so everything will have to go through their Paypal business. It shows that just like the banks these big businesses are never happy with the amounts of money they are making. They just keep on pushing the envelope and the small people have to pay more. dangermouse
That will make things interesting - I notice a lot of European based eBay stores (I have been searching for German Ed GT40s) don't offer Paypal as an option. I also noticed that many US based sellers now charge double the postage to cover Paypal terms and conditions Generally I don't buy from eBay to get a better deal - though I have picked up some bargains, rather I am looking for collectable cars which are no longer on the shelf at the local slot dealer - if policies keep adding costs to the price you pay then I guess I will become one less customer in the marketplace.
