waytofast
i have done a search in the forums and contact adhesive is mentioned, but no brands were named. please tell me what is the best brand (full name) to use. i have read to put it into a sauce bottle to make it easier to squirt along the recess. sounds like good advice. i want to lay the braid this week end. thanks in advance. steve
Davnic74
Steve, I used the 3M double sided tape, it work's fine just as long as you don't stretch the braid when laying around corner's because it can retract and pull away...speaking from experience . The contact adhesive is and was the most common glue for laying braid but i think any brand would work well just try your local cabinet maker,as for a sauce bottle i think maybe a bit messy, maybe try a small hobby brush to apply (3mm) less mess. If you end up using the contact adhesive make sure you let it cure until it's tacky ( i work with this stuff everyday) bit on the nose. I have also heard that a water based liquid nail's has been used, i think it was Rob (Snake Valley Raceway). Yep spot on Dave, thats what I used. Worked well but also messy need to be meticulous in clean up. Also Daves comment about stretching the braid applies here otherwise around bends it will lift. chilla
I'd suggest experimenting with a few alternatives first and not rushing into it. Your track is (hopefully) going to get a bigger workout than most so it'll need to stand up to all sorts of treatment. I'd suggest building a small test piece and testing the braid against all sorts of pulling, pushing and, most importantly, solvents. And, even if I had a 'cross-the-heart-and-hope-to-die' endorsement of any method, I'd still test it first. Quote Cheers, Charles "all I want for my birthdy is another birthdy" Ian Dury...bless 'im. waytofast
i did do a test with some liquid nails, seemed to work well, but messy. will check all the labels of available glues at bunnings. i like the idea of brushing on the glue, but i have 6 lanes to do, wouldnt the brush get all gooey when the glue starts to set. (within 10 minutes) dont worry charles, i wont rush into it. i havent come this far to stuff $500 of braid. steve

The best and easiest method is the tape...3M vhb I used this on my latest track,it is quick and easy and works well. The only downside is the cost. I would use it again. waytofast
contact glue is a pain in the butt. i cant seem to get a a nice even flow. bits ooz out the sides of the braid. what a mess. i think i will take the advice of a few others and go with the 3M double sided tape. especially as i have 6 lanes each of 13.5 metres x2 per slot.
