Stevo41
Very exciting (well for me anyway) I've managed to get approval for a 4 x 10ft space in the garage - even put some carpet on the floor for those cold winter nights. Also convinced the wife to keep our old desktop pc. Got a new SCX set last week with Ferrari 360 GTC and Aston Martin DBR9. Picked up a grand chicane to form a figure 8 (think SCX C3 less 2 straights). Only future plans are an SCX Le Mans start and get some timing together. And some scenery. And some more cars. Hardly compares with many tracks seen on this site, but with limited space and a 3 year old son I thought it was a good mix - easy enough for kids but fast enough for adults. My brother inlaw is a builder so he's coming to help knock together the table this afternoon - can't wait. If anyone wants to see pics of the track let me know. I love it when a plan comes together :( Edited July 22, 2006 by Stevo41
Eno the Wonderdog
sounds excellent Stevo. I got back into playing with these little things again 'cause the stepsons turned up.. now I've gone mad! :( Quote Captain's log: We are enroute to some planet whose name I cannot pronounce to do something really complicated that I don't understand. Stevo41
An update....... Table came in at 4 x 8 ft, so I currently have a 5.5mtr SCX track up and running, with the Le Mans start on it's way (thanks again Slider). I need a couple of 1/2 straights so I can run the grand chicane in the centre of the overpass instead of up one end. PC is safely under the table waiting for lap timing stuff. Yipee! Stevo41
I am trying to finish the track so I can post some pics. The original modified figure 8 proved to be a bit simple to drive, so I've gone to a new layout but am 1 piece short. Picking the missing piece up tommorrow night (gotta love Thursday night shopping) so hopefully pics by the weekend. Thanks for taking an interest in my track. Stevo41
Here's a pic (finally) of my track. It's the 4th attempt, after earlier tries didn't drive that well. Also had to reverse the direction to accomodate the Le Mans start. Average length is 6.4 mtrs. Timing set-up to come, still not sure if I should go IR sensor route or the dead track section. Any advice (I'm hopeless with electronics) would be appreciated. Cheers, Steve
Stevo41
I'm finally done with track building - this one came in at 9.3 mtrs per lane - about 4.5 sec per lap with an SCX Aston Martin w/out mag. It seems to drive well and the overpass gives me a chance to build a bridge / scenery etc. Finally got to put some of the mrs books to good use too. With the big fella on the box I can give him a nudge with my hip when he passes me on the corners........Note the thumb trigger grip Freddy - yes I will look at adding scenery in time. Ontheflipside
I made the mistake of teaching my young blokes at this age and it wasn't long before they started whipping my arse. "Gee I hate that" - but great to see new people getting the bug. Great use of "useless" novels for bridges and banking Steve. Stevo41
Here's my first real go at some scenery - nothing earth shattering, but it's a start. Next up is some grass, trees and a control tower. Cheers, Steve

Stevo41
Here's an update on my track. Plastic all sold / put away to sell. Spent weeks playing with track design - as you can see I went for something simple - it's only 4 x 8 ft and simple means I am more likely to actually get it running. Painted the table borders and first coat of the track before routing to see how it will look. Will tape off the road section and then paint in some green to later add some Woodland Scenics grass and some trees, gravel road edging etc. Routing, copper tape, power and Parma budget controllers to come. It will be 2 lanes running on 12V. Cheers, Steve
