Another New Ssd Track

Shed Racer

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, have been working away at this for most of today, and want to get the opinions of those in the know. :D

Most of the upper R/H section is planned to be elevated, dropping to almost "sea level" in the middle then climbing again for the flyover. The hairpin will be level before again dropping down.

Its going to be on a 6x2.4 base, so wanted to make the most of the space, hence the 2 lane pit.

Hello John,

I envy you as I have purchased all the SSD track, more cars than the "she who must be obeyed" knows plus timber frame and ply to build a similar size track. Unfortunately have purchased a caravan which now takes up the spare space in the garage. Eventually I will build an extension to my workshop but in the mean time (& currently) setting up a track on 2/2.4x1.2's in an "L" shape.

What track design program did you use. I purchased the Scaley one but find hard to use.

In regards to your plan, and after racing on Ricks (Aussieslotter) track a couple of times and trialing some sections. . . .

1. I would move the main straight crossover off the high speed section to somewhere where speed has been wased off the car ie: on the flyover.

2. Consider a banked R2 curve (bottom left) combining the two long straights and also a banked R3 at the end of the main straight.

3. Following Ricks set up - try and work in a "walk in" section (to the right of the hair pin) This allows more effective marshalling. I think this is a must. Some do not like the hair pins in SSD but in my tempory set ups it has been great.

Great stuff John, looks like you have given it a lot of though and seem to have the basis of a great set up. :D

Regards Mel

I can't believe that I wanted to grow up

Hi Shed Racer,

Welcome to SSD. Not a bad design and with a couple of considerations would be even better.

Theres only one track designer of 100's that actually allow you to use any of the SSD pieces in any order.

email the owner at............. infor@trackpower.net

its the best available to date.

Ok going by the powerbase positioning Im going to assume its generally in a anticlockwise direction?

Move XLC to end of straight (say one length back from corner) as per what Mel was suggesting

Remove curved LC from end of main straight.

Before 2nd major corner you have 1.5 straights, put a XLC there so you get inside race line.

Ditto with next curve (The XLC after curve 3 could be used.)

As mentioned move XLC after curve 3 to somewhere better

The curved LC half way around the track (near the PB) is ok.

XLC before major curve No.5 to get inside line.(The right hander heading up the board)

XLC at flyover to get inside line.

R1 hairpin ok, dont use chicane version though, too many collisions. My cars fly around my R1 hairpin.

XLC under flyover.

Extend pit lane. (mod now available to put sensors in pit lane to detect laps)

Use R2 and R3 at beginning of main straight instead of R1 and R2

Personally I find banked curves unreliable, (sorry Mel), especially say if an F1 car stops on it.

The windy bit between major curves 4 and 5 make into a straight (the bit where it goes diagonally left and down across the page)

Cheers.

On chips, we have simply too many to create a video-log. As mentioned earlier in this thread, some were dead-on-arrival, some had no brakes, some had a range with the of about 30cm, some when hooked up to a light kit had only rear lights but not front lights (light kit and LEDs worked perfectly when tested with another chip) and so much more.

Some great food for thought there guys, thanks.

Mel, I used tracker 2000 for this track design. I find it pretty intuitive to use, although there are some things that annoy me.

You can find it here; if you want to check it out. I will be having a look at the track designer that Rick has recommended though.

As far as the XLC on the straight was concerned, I thought it might be a saver if a car was about to exit the pit lane, and allow a change of lane to pass with.

That walk in section might prove practical also, will wait to check reach when final version is test layed on base.

Some good advice there Rick thanks, will do a little more work on it with some of your suggestions, was worried if I kept the lefy diagonal too straight, there would be too much momentum at the R/H as this section is planned as a downhill run. What do you think??? Could I get away with it as a straight?

Appreciate the comments guys, thanks. will post the revised layout hopefully tonight. :)

John.

Ive got a mod using anti collision function forcing stupid pit cars about to collide with main straight car and force it into a run off area using XLC not pit lane piece :)

Another back straight would be great there.

I use tracker too John.

Be very careful with the banked turns though - they're banked to about 10 degrees and Indianapolis is banked to about 9.. so don't use inappropriate tyres..

I particularly like the squiggly bit from mid left to top right - try a lot of different bits out so you get a fun wiggle but lose the half straights if you can.. <_<

..only 'cause it's prettier! :lol::lol::lol:

Matt, thanks again for the invite, it was much appreciated. Kids & I had a ball, :P it gave me lots to think about with respect to design of a flowing digital circuit.

At this point its definately back to the drawing board with the circuit, however I think there are some elements of the original track that will make it through the cut.

Some of those car prep hints should help next time out at Geds also. Once again thanks for the hospitality and look forward to being able to return the favour.

John.
