Avatar
Thinking of doing the following as a permanent layout.... The straight after the third turn is where I intend it to start raising with it peaking at the back straight. It will then run flat until the S's where it will decline rapidly. Ive been told maybe I should have banked track at the base of the decline - but that wouldnt suit the "Rally" style secenry I intended to have. ideas? - Bill Quote - Bill All hail the Hypnotoad! If you have a digital track (which it looks like) you might find it better to have the lane changers at the beginning of the straights saving a lot of deslots etc. I have an "L" shape track and find the vision difficult when several people are racing if standing on the inside. Great looking track though. Look forward to pics of your progress. SlotsNZ
Gidday again Avatar, great to see you're getting straight down to the "serious end" and building a permanant track. On one hand "any new track is a great track", on the other, we all have to make compromises for space, cost etc, and make individual choices anyway based on our personal interest. Yours is obviously rally, mine is road, classics and the "go fast" cars like Le Mans GT1 and LMP What flipside says about controller positions is pretty important, drives me crazy when I can't see for some galaah with a 7 slab Castlemaine"chest"leaning over the track, and you may have up to six drivers on SSD which is what I am guessing you have designed. Just a couple of thoughts from my recent experience (my first track BTW) You may want to consider a crossover to equalise lane lengths. The design looks quite tight and technical, which may be exactly what you want in a rally track, that's your call. How wide are the benches? Can you marshal it easily, can people reach around the track without having to resort to using those dastardly "pickers" to reach desloted cars? Will drivers be able to marshal without having to put down their controllers and walk round the track? Does it leave you with the amount of space, and where you want it for creating the scenery/diorama that will please you? AND !!!! AND - - - - Is there some space for a secret compartment to hide the extra 50 cars your wife doesn't know you own? Yours is obviously rally, mine is road, classics and the "go fast" cars like Le Mans GT1 and LMP I figured Rally could pass off as a number of things - Rally naturally, V8 (the Bathurst track has Bushland in areas) and just road for fun. I love the lemans cars and will probably get some, but I dont think the room I have is enough for the big straights. What flipside says about controller positions is pretty important, drives me crazy when I can't see for some galaah with a 7 slab Castlemaine"chest"leaning over the track, and you may have up to six drivers on SSD which is what I am guessing you have designed. Cant see myself getting up to six - 3 or 4 at the most. You may want to consider a crossover to equalise lane lengths. Was under the impression that with SSD lap lengths werent as much of an issue How wide are the benches? Can you marshal it easily, can people reach around the track without having to resort to using those dastardly "pickers" to reach desloted cars? 1.2m wide, was going to be 1m but my mate pointed out that the common sheet width is 120mm Does it leave you with the amount of space, and where you want it for creating the scenery/diorama that will please you? As I figured most scenery would be trees and spectators the need for big flat areas for buildings isnt warranted. AND !!!! AND - - - - Is there some space for a secret compartment to hide the extra 50 cars your wife doesn't know you own? I have a Hobby room seperate from the room the track will be in, it had custom built shelves for displaying models built into the walls, I am selling 4 of my 6 tabletop wargaming Armies to fund this new hobby so I have lots of shelf space left. Besides if I cant hide the Star Wars Prop Replicas, Reptiles, Star Wars Figures and Wargaming armies from her I doubt new cars will be any different. Quote - Bill All hail the Hypnotoad! Was under the impression that with SSD lap lengths werent as much of an issue Well I am old and thick, and I don't read properly . . so I made a really stupid comment about lane lengths to someone already in the digital age -- - see, I told you in the welcome forum that there are no stupid questions - just stupid answers LOL I have a Hobby room seperate from the room the track will be in, it had custom built shelves for displaying models built into the walls, I am selling 4 of my 6 tabletop wargaming Armies to fund this new hobby so I have lots of shelf space left. Darn tricky those SWMBOs' aren't they . . . like trying to hide truffles from a french pig, or cat poo from my labrador Quote Custodian of many used screws (quite a few loose ) * Recovering Lapsed Slot Addict * Companion of other delusional slot addicts * Total kidder
a10k123
Here are 2 examples I used in a very similar space. Track 1 Track 2 Both 2 lane tracks. Track 1 is a nice flowing track. Track 2 is faster and longer (it gives around 21m per lane in that 3x2.8m space). The next step is the digital conversion.

I had a 2 lane track in a shed with a bit like that and even with 2 people in it it was too hard to see what you were doing. Avatar
My updated idea for a track.... Im keeping the L-section just so Ive got more track, Im also keeping it rally styled for the moment, although I have already bought 2 Scalex Minis from the John Cooper racing series so maybe a small touring track would be better suited? Anyone know of a site with airial(sp?) shots of real life John Cooper tracks? Quote - Bill All hail the Hypnotoad!
