    Bulk Buy

Geezus......................Brad, so far in this thread you've made four brief posts with nary a please or thankyou amongst them. Maybe if you tempered your approach, learnt to show some manners and explained why you specifically want (or need) to "buy bulk", you may get a different reaction.

    Track Power

OK, just for my own peace of mind...............: I happen to have a power supply, the model below the DS3800 which I've been thinking of using with my Scalie 2 lane setup. If I'm understanding correctly, I can run this at it's maximum current (5 amps) and adjust the voltage to control maximum speed with no problems BUT do I connect it to the Scalie Sports PB in place of the standard supply or should I be connecting it differently? Cheers, ChrisO
  3. And yet you see fit to quote them
  4. I just showed this to SWMBO..........couldn't wipe the grin off her face. Apart from agreeing that it was bloody awesome she reckons it's the product of a man with too much time on his hands
  5. Love the (not too subtle) music references :stretch: ......actually had Mr Page and Mr Plant pumping today as I painted the rebuilt walls in the studio. :devil2:
  6. .......... Bloody awesome.............loved the audio
  7. Absolutely the best use for it!! Music is always #1 but slots make a nice diversion :huh2: Actually, we've so much tied up in instruments and gear that slots don't stand a chance of ever taking over. :mallet:
  8. Just a bit of trivial information.............as most already know, the copper foil is made specifically for the stained glass "industry" and in my years of involvement, I'd never heard of there being any specific physical difference between the "standard" and "black backed" foils. The reason for having a black adhesive side is simply that when assembled, the backside of the foil can be visible through the glass and someone, somewhere, decided that black is less obtrusive than the copper...............if for our purposes, the "black backed" actually performs and/or "behaves" better is probably just pure good luck.
  9. I'm buggered if I know how to post pics here but the reason for my "sharp eye" may be explained here...... http://www.recordingproject.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=30325 ...tis my son at the console in the first pic. I must get around to updating that thread sometime. That room doubles as our slot room these days ChrisO
  10. Great idea with the copper foil for power distribution ..................now can you please explain the significance of the R2R in your avatar?
  11. Still isn't any real guarantee that things wont get lost...............no "shipping" service is 100% perfect.
  12. What is the "safest" voltage and current that can be handled by standard cars, eg: Scalies? I happen to have the second largest Pwr Supply on Armchair's listings ( http://www.armchairracer.com.au/power/power.htm ) which is rated at 0-30V 5amps and I'm hesitant to connect this supply to our track in case I cook something.
  13. I just read this on another forum I frequent, whether you believe it or not is irrelevant............: "E-mail story forwarded by one of my mates. Pocket Taser Stun Gun, a great gift for the wife. A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Taser for their anniversary submitted this: Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety....?? WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and brought it home. I loaded two AAA batteries in the darn thing and pushed the button. Nothing! I was disappointed. I learned, however, that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same time; I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to Julie what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave. Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only two triple-A batteries, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat Gracie looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this thing out on a flesh & blood moving target. I must admit I thought about zapping Gracie (for a fraction of a second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance that it would work as advertised. Am I wrong? So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, and taser in another. The directions said that a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries. All the while I'm looking at this little device measuring about 5" long, less than 3/4 inch in circumference; pretty cute really and (loaded with two itsy, bitsy triple-A batteries) thinking to myself, "no possible way!" What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best... I'm sitting there alone, Gracie looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, "don't do it dipshit," reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little ole thing couldn't hurt all that bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . . . HOLY MOTHER OF GOD . . . WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . . . WHAT THE HELL!!! I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position, with tears in my eyes, body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs. The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an atempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room. Note: If you ever feel compelled to "mug" yourself with a taser, one note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is dislodged from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. A three second burst would be considered conservative. SON-OF-A-BITCH, THAT HURT LIKE HELL!!! A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape. My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs. I had no control over the drooling. Apparrently I s#!t myself, but was too numb to know for sure and my sence of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe was came from my hair. I'm still looking for my nuts and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!! P. S. My wife loved the gift, and now regularly threatens me with it! "If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid."
  14. No matter which way I attempt to word (or express) this, it doesn’t come out sounding right, so I’ll apologise in advance. Over my (too many) years, I’ve been a member of a number of various clubs or organizations and the one thing that I’ve seen happen in almost every case is that sooner or later there develops a little group of people who believe their way of things is the right way, usually to the detriment of other members and ultimately to the “organization†as a whole. These groups are usually driven by egos or revolve around a central individual who for various reasons, manages to attract some perverse form of loyalty from others and whether you like it or not, given the current direction some things are taking, anyone could be forgiven for thinking that we’re seeing a repeat of this phenomena within this slot community. Aussieslotter’s comment regarding the lack of input virtually hits the nail on the head, there are a number of experienced and very knowledgeable guys here but it’s unfortunate that the most some of them have contributed to the current “national†issue/discussion, is to criticise anyone who questioned the doubtful right of anyone to call an event a “National†title in light of the fact that there is no national body to sanction such an event. In any other sport or hobby I’ve been involved in, a situation like this wouldn’t be tolerated. And please, before anyone attempts to defend the proposed discussions at the upcoming meeting, consider this………..these discussions will be only open to the people who are able to attend that event…….. ie: any interested person who for whatever reason won’t be attending, regardless of how much they may have to contribute to the issue, is virtually shut out. I’m sorry, but I really do have to question what motivates someone to ignore the opportunity to contribute to the discussions on an open forum.
  15. I'm watching with interest. I just figured I'd already said more than enough (for a newbie) and as you said, the weekend will hopefully see some productive discussion.
  16. DM, Not selling, mainly because I'm new to the "sport" and only have a couple of V8's which don't do much for me. The GT40's are one of a few styles of car I'm interested in gradually acquiring, that said, although I can feel the temptation, I'm not really interested in collecting just for the sake of it, (that indulgence is left for music gear and guitars). Re the Goodwood sets.............I can buy them but the price is around $220AU which isn't much different to the import costs once shipping is taken into account. :huh2:
  17. This may be an odd question but what do you guys think would be a fair (new) price for the Goodwood set? I know that around 18 months ago Armchair was listing them for approx., $169 and they've recently commented that that was their "clearance" price. Cheers
  18. James, Copper foil is, or should be available from any reputable stained glass supplier as that is what is made for.
  19. This should probably be in the "sports" forum but anyways.......what I'm wondering, is if BE is making similar comments towards the other GPs that are in our time zones.
  20. Thanks Vince. I envisaged using either a 1/2 or full Scalie straight set in the MDF with the copper from the routed curve extending onto those sections. Anyways, it's just an idea at this stage but I can't see why it wouldn't work. :purplebounce:
  21. OK, this might be a dumb question and/or it may have come up in the past but I'm wondering if anyone has "successfully" grafted Scalie or other plastic track to MDF routed sections. I'd like to have a large, possibly varying radius "U" curve, something I can't do with plastic and what I'm thinking, is to do the curve in MDF and have a section of Scalie track fixed into the MDF at either end of the slots to allow quick connection of the rest of the track. :purplebounce:
  22. Wow!!! Great looking circuit. SWMBO loves racing on our Scalies but I'm not game to let her see what you're doing as the carcasses in the background will remind her she wants (we need) a new kitchen
  23. Funny thing is that they titled the pic on their site " new_resprays015fd3 " which is remarkably similar to Manic's " img402.imageshack.us/img402/5922/resprays015fd3.jpg " ....................someone at SCX must have thought real hard to come up with that
  24. If you haven't already done it, then make sure you have a copy of the SCX page. Just to be safe, I saved it as a web page and also took a screen shot. :huh2:
  25. I have to agree with aussie's KISS approach. Whatever it ends up being called, have a National commitee, the fewer commitee members, the simpler it becomes. Provided the commitee is popularly elected by the majority of clubs and/or their members it shouldn't be necessary for each state to have a member on the commitee. Either create a new forum for "national" discussion or preferably keep it here on Auslot. :minigun:
