  1. Late to the party, but it appears to be a Bristol 408.
  2. Kit-builder here - although life has got in the way of slot cars for me in the last 12 months. I still buy kits occasionally though for when I've got time to start building again.
  3. I tend to follow any manufacturers' pages I come across. My favourite would be George Turner's - always interesting.
  4. Yes, it does appear to be a fuel cap. But it's already got two fuel caps. I'd be surprised if there was a third one! Perhaps it's for a different 300S kit and not needed for my particular model. I think I've figured out where the first mystery item goes. I found a hole in the body and looking at George's photos I think the mystery doodad goes in there. I think I'll just assume the other fuel cap is excess to requirements.
  5. I'm struggling a bit with parts identification for my George Turner Maserati. Anyone got any thoughts on these: It actually had two items that both seemed to be rear vision mirrors but when I went to prime them one snapped off and blew away into space somewhere. I'm guessing that because George makes a lot of variations on this car that some of these items are not required for my particular model (the Bonnier/Scarlatti No. 12 car) Thanks guys Larger photo here: http://i612.photobucket.com/albums/tt206/sunbeammadd/IMG_1824.jpg
  6. There's also Hobbyrama at Stafford which stocks Scalextric and Carrera only. iLol on the Gold Coast appears to have closed down sadly.
  7. They seem to have taken down their website and facebook page. :(
  8. I suspect they are including Holden's pre-General Motors coachbuilding business to arrive at the 100+ years.
  9. I'd better not laugh. Revolving doors confuse me too.
  10. Ok, a couple more. Think I'll have to redo the interior in flat black. The semi gloss looks too shiny. I'll have to get some chrome foil and have a go at the rear bumper.
  11. Just finished putting this together. Now I must get back to scenery building.
  12. 6 wheeled F1 cars are all well and good, but how about 6 wheeled WRC cars?
  13. Fabulous! Love the fasteners on the Porsche tonneau.
  14. Almost there now. I've still got a little bit of work to do to Ronnie's helmet and I haven't yet figured out how to attach the end of the exhaust system. The ride height was sorted out by fitting a Scaleauto SC1607 with the shaft trimmed down. It's nice and deep too. The kit came with a rear light which I found a bit too fiddly to glue on with my fingers. So I tried tweezers. The last I saw of it it was shooting off toward my track at high velocity. Oh well!
  15. A grid of 1960s baby cars would be huge fun.
  16. I'm another one with intersecting hobbies.
  17. I haven't yet! Shortly after that I packed it away to move and have only just got it back out again.
  18. Got a bit sidetracked with other projects and moving house. I was on leave this week so dug it out and did a bit more.
  19. Weird is right! Everything about the car was weird actually - hence tossing away the original running gear. I was so close to giving up on the chassis altogether and trying to make my own. Possibly down the track I should try to fit a long can motor and get rid of all that nonsense.
  20. I thought I would share this just in case anybody else bought one of these dogs back when and like me couldn't get it to run properly. People who are good at slot car setup might have picked this right away, but it's taken me 5 years to figure out! I bought this thing in 2008. I knew at the time they were poor slot cars, but I'm a sucker for a Fulvia and just had to have one. First time on the track I realised it was far worse than I had imagined. It would kangaroo hop so much that it would bounce off the track before it even reached the first corner. I fiddled with it a bit, but couldn't find an easy fix, so up on the shelf it went. Every now and then I would get it down and fiddle with it with no success. Eventually during one of my tinkering sessions the motor blew so I replaced it with a Ninco one. I figured the kangaroo hop must be from a bent axle, so I fitted Slot.it running gear. No difference. I replaced the guide with a sprung type. No difference. I couldn't find anything amiss with the wheels. That just left the chassis. Since the rearmost chassis mounting point is forward of the rear wheels, I thought maybe it was to do with flex at the rear of the chassis. I made up new posts so I could put screws in the chassis behind the rear wheels. No difference. I even tried reinforcing the guide mount in desperation (you can see the piece of polystyrene I glued in). The front of the chassis is pretty flimsy and I thought maybe there was some unwanted flexing going on there. Today I finally figured it out. The screws for the rear chassis mount (the ones forward of the front wheels if you recall, the other ones you can see below are the extra ones I drilled) actually thread into the chassis itself as well as into the body. That meant everything was far too rigid. So all I had to do all along as just drill out those holes in the chassis to allow a bit of movement. Now it runs perfectly well. So 5 years on I can finally enjoy putting in some laps!
  21. Thanks Phil, I see there are a few MRRC ones there that might do the job. I'll check those out.
  22. As it happens I've got an SLR as well. While they're about the same width, the internal diameter is much greater on the SLR than the S class unfortunately. I might also try RS Slot Racing in the UK as Colin found some tyres once before for one of my oddball cars.
  23. I make them 5.8mm wide, with an outer diameter of 20mm and inner diameter of about 11.9mm. I did think about the Revell Cortina, but the Mercedes tyres are quite a bit taller. I see there are Ortmanns available for the Revell Galaxie but I haven't found any dimensions yet to compare.
  24. I wonder whether anyone has yet replaced tyres on one of these? I've had a look through various catalogues, but they're so skinny I think it might be hard to find anything else that uses a similar size. I might have to go back further in time and look at restoration parts for long obsolete models I suspect.
