Slider
Yellow and whit would probably not stand out against the grey, I reckon green would work. I have yellow and white with a gray track and it works fine for me and i,m what you call red green color blind and i must say i struggle big time with colours , but as i say it works Cheers Slider

knoath
Well that's what I originally wanted... but with white trackside lines, I thought it too much. Imagine it... white, ...red, white, blue, ... white. A bit much? Quote Cheers, Dick SCMR build thread Woodbrook Valley build thread "A Man's home is his castle, but his garage is his sanctuary!" Davnic74
At least it would be in the middle, otherwise yellow will look good. Rob
So your apply copper tape this weekend Dick? What are you using for a power supply? Quote Regards Rob
knoath
Rob, I have an Avair variable 9-16v, 15 amp unit. ($120) I believe Mobile Raceways sell them. Got mine off e-bay. I won't be taping this weekend unfortunately. Family catching up for a late Father's day get together lunch here (it's hard to get everyone together...), then out Sunday morn, followed by Sandown on the big screen!!! I spoke with espsix about how to go about taping, wether to paint first then tape, or vise versa.... what will you be doing? Looking at Davnic74's track, it looks OK to tape over paint, but what about tyres 'grabbing' the tape as the cars slide? I've ordered the Ferrodor, that won't be in untill maybe Wednesday... so I've got untill then to tape if I decide to go that way.... gref
Dick, from what I've been told/read, it's better to tape before painting ferrador as the surface is textured and the tape will not stick? I have seen pics of someone taping all track over undercoat then painting sections and wiping the tape clean after? knoath
Yeah... either that or masking the tape? That means doing it twice though!!! I may just use the wipe off method. gref
That means doing it twice though!!! not that bad! when I did mine I painted the slots first then masked and painted track, pulled up masking - left to dry. then did it all AGAIN...hated that part Quote 2 x australian ego champion regards Shane Fulel racing in first track build --> https://youtu.be/nG1EyFkbJSs My second track build --> raceday - https://youtu.be/8WXYQ528iKM
Rob
Going back to my plastic experience we always provide a smooth polished surface to apply labels stickers and such to moulded parts to gain maximum adhesion. Trying to place a label on a textured surface just didn't work well at all with the label falling off in due course. Based on this I would think taping before painting would be better. I'm going to do a small test piece lay some tape and then paint and let it dry, I want to see how it adheres to the copper tape if at all. If that doesn't work then paint and wipe will be my approach. I would imagine if you tape first the tape being so thin will sit below the painted surface protecting it from sliding cars. With the ferrodor do you fist need to undercoat the MDF? if so what with? Edited September 15, 2007 by Rob Quote Regards Rob
lavenlaar
Copper tape needs to be burnished really well, we don't have problems with it lifting. It sticks a lot better to paint than bare MDF..."Luf (oldslotracer) " It will stick ok with ferradore - only because ferradore is more rough textured than flat acrillic paints. nothing SUPERGLUE cant fix Edited September 15, 2007 by lavenlaar
gref
Rob - get a tin of mdf primer, give it a couple of coats as it will suck it up! In regards to Luf's taping slogan - they don't have ferrador over there (or choose not to use it) He does all of his track with a flat latex or something (can't remember exactly whay he says on the dvd) Quote 2 x australian ego champion regards Shane Fulel racing in first track build --> https://youtu.be/nG1EyFkbJSs My second track build --> raceday - https://youtu.be/8WXYQ528iKM
knoath
I sealed the MDF with MDF sealer... hence the white table top. So I should be right. Will tape first, then 2 coats of Ferrodor. Cheers for your comments fellas. Davnic74
Dick, the reason i taped ontop is for easy repairs or re-tape in the future, are you using the dark ferrodore? if so you may get a lip on the edge of the tape(especially after a couple of coats)because the darker ferrodore like mine seems to be a lot thicker consistancy than the lighter, and just wondering how you will be wipping it off the tape without upseting the actual surface. cheers David Quote Regard's David Team Phoenix 4 x Australian National Champion. knoath
Oh great... that's all I need to hear!!! I'm sooo confused!!! Well, I reckon if you tape first, that would eliminate any need for repairs as the tape would be sub-Ferrodor? With regards to the wiping off.... cross that bridge when I come to it? Wel I think I'll suck it and see!?! It is my first attempt after all... live and learn. Thanks Dave!! knoath
OK, my free help with taping has been postponed for a few weeks (my request), so as I pick up the Ferrodor Wed (I hope!!) I'll paint the track surface in the meantime! I've spoken to Davnic74 about surface roughness and applying the tape. As I've gone with the Bridge Grey (smoother than the darkest Ferrodor as Davnic has) I'm assured it'll be fine. So by Sunday I hope to have a couple of coats painted! I can then turn to trackside lines and a few little details before the taping starts. Better get a move on with the driver stations.... Forgot earlier to say thanks to SlotsNZ for the advice on painting the lane colors! Cheers for that, it worked a treat!
